Meet Shaniya McNair, a Junior Applied Psychology major at Coppin State University. This summer, Shaniya has had the incredible opportunity to intern at National Institute of Health on the campus of Louisiana State University. π― Her research focuses on understanding the impact racism has on alcohol and cannabis use among African Americans using Ecological Momentary Assessment (EMA) technology. π± She's diving deep into daily surveys and data input, all to pursue her dream of becoming a clinical psychologist. π Follow her journey and stay tuned for more updates! π

We are thrilled to welcome Dr. Chanta Haywood as the new Interim Provost at Coppin State University!
βCoppin is experiencing a great deal of innovation and growth under Dr. Jenkinsβ leadership at this juncture in its rich history, and I am excited to be a part of his team," said Dr. Haywood. "I am even more eager to collaborate with the entire campus community to strengthen our academic enterprise and to make sure our students, faculty, and staff have the resources they need to succeed.β
Dr. Haywood brings nearly 25 years of executive experience across three university systems (Florida, North Carolina, and Georgia). Her extensive background includes roles such as Graduate Dean, Associate Provost for Academic Affairs, and Vice President for Advancement. She is a noted scholar and prolific writer, recently lecturing at Yale.
President Jenkins shared, βIt is a pleasure to have Dr. Haywood join our community of scholars and my executive leadership team. Her experience, disposition, and professional acumen will contribute significantly to our ability to maintain our progress as well as help us achieve our strategic priorities.β

Today, we celebrate , a historic day marking the end of slavery in the United States. On June 19, 1865, Union soldiers arrived in Galveston, Texas, to announce that the Civil War had ended and enslaved people were free. This pivotal moment in history was made a federal holiday in 2021, recognizing its importance and the ongoing journey towards equality and justice. Let's honor and reflect on the significance of this day together.
