Rescuers from all over converged at the Roco Training Center in Baton Rouge for an intense week of Rescue Essentials. Chief Dom Velasquez (New Mexico), Josh Blake (Nevada), and Kevin Isernia (New York) led the course. Students from Indiana, Louisiana, and Texas all showed they've got what it takes.

Roco Rescue Senior Chief Instructors Brad Warr and Troy Gardner don’t get to teach together often. When they do, it’s usually something pretty cool. Last week we found the two in Valdez, Alaska for a four-day custom class. Let’s just say that the drive was pretty spectacular.
Another busy week is in the books at the Roco Training Center. A couple of hot and dirty days of trench rescue training for this excellent team. Hopefully, we "unearthed" some hidden potential and "shored up" their knowledge and skills.

High winds, hailstorms, and big cranes. Seems like a recipe for disaster. Not even close. Roco Rescue Director of Training Chris Carlsen and Roco Senior Chief Instructor Brad Warr were privileged to kick off our new relationship with Boise Fire Department for two days of fantastic Tower Rescue training. This talented group of rescuers kitted up and made well over 100 climbs in adverse weather, pulling off progressively more difficult rescues. Looking forward to spending more time with this great rescue team and fire department.

We often get asked about using fire department aerial apparatus as Artificial High Directionals(AHD) in rope rescue. Many of our instructor cadre have spent years in the fire service using ladder trucks for AHD’s and the conversations among us are entertaining and sometimes contentious. One thing we can always agree on is our good friend Kelly Byrne with CMC and DC Fire and EMS gave us lots to think about with his “Fire Department High Directionals in Urban Environments” presentation at ITRS in 2016. Enjoy.

We're proud to support one of our former team members, David Johnson, and his son Noah. They're embarking on the Everglades Challenge, a rigorous 300-mile sailboat race from St. Petersburg to Key Largo, FL, in their vessel named "Endurance." This endeavor goes beyond the challenge of the race; it's a mission to raise awareness and funds for Parkinson's research in honor of David's mother, Diane Johnson, who is courageously battling the disease
We invite you to be a part of this important mission. Your generosity can truly make a difference in the lives of those affected by Parkinson's.

A male falls 25 feet from a cliff in a remote area in Harriman State Park on Christmas Eve. Woodbury Fire Department, local EMS responders and park rangers put together a strong rescue plan to move the patient through a large washout that was 25’ deep and rocky and would require a rope system for passage.
