Happy August WCRC birthdays to staff and client August babies!
For the last three days, WCRC has undergone a CARF recertification. CARF is the national certification for rehab facilities. It is a BIG undertaking and expensive. I write a grant for this process every 3 years for $10,000 to $12,000. CARF looks at 1400 standards that we have to meet. WCRC has been preparing for this for months (really ongoing for since the last survey in 2020). For the entire 3 days, we are working every day, ALL day with the surveyor and this time it was on Microsoft Teams which means we also had to upload ALL documents required as WCRC is still very much not paperless YET.
Result of survey: In 21 categories, WCRC received NO RECOMMENDATIONS for 16 of the 21 categories. Two of these categories were the BIGGEST documentation-Program Services and Program Centered Plan.
Of the other 5 categories, we only received minor recommendations and ALL have been corrected as of today.
We are VERY proud of this accomplishment. I want to thank my staff, LaShonda Kelly-WCRC Admin Asst and Carolyn Bazille, Supervising Counselor, as well as a BIG thank you to Jacob with Faulk & Winkler and Alex with IT Inspired who assisted with the documents and explanations for the Financial and Technology sections of CARF. I could not have done this without the help of all of you.
We will know in 6-8 weeks if we receive a 1 year certification or 3 year certification from CARF but I am very confident that it will be another 3 year certification. Now we just keep doing all the hard work to keep up for the next certification.
Thanks to all!

Happy Easter from WCRC! Residents received Easter bags from WCRC and a $10 gift card from Sally Meyers, original WCRC Director, who stopped by for a visit to see our new home. β€οΈππ°
This beautiful lady stopped by today to see the new WCRC home. She is my mentor and my second mom. Sally Meyers was the original Director of WCRC from 1974 until her retirement in 2005. She hired me as Supervising Counselor in 1992 and I was honored to step up as Director upon her retirement. Pictured with us in the second picture is her daughter Holly Vidrine. Ms Sally brought the WCRC residents $10 gift cards for Easter. β€οΈ
Thank you to Jess Byrd and the Department of Corrections and Probation and Parole for the kind donation of food for the WCRC residents. The Department of Corrections was the neighbor to WCRC for 45 years when the program was in the old fire station on St Ferdinand and South Blvd until our move to our new home in January 2023. Thank you for continuing to think of us! β€οΈ (Pictured are LaShonda Kelly-WCRC Administrative Assistant and Jess Byrd-DOC)
