COVID19 Tip:
The conjunctiva or lining of the eye is an entry point for the Covid19 virus. Therefore, The American College of Ophthamology now suggests contact wearers switch to eye glasses for a couple reasons:
1) You will touch yours eyes and face less frequently throughout the day.
2) Your eyeglasses actually serve a protective barrier to prevent virus particles from landing in your eyes.
COVID-19 continues to spread in our community and state as predicted. We are learning more about the clinical features each day, including new complications. It remains imperative that the public remain diligent to staying in, washing hands, and avoiding groups of people, especially if you are over 60yrs of age or have underlying medical problems. Reach out to your physician if you have any concerns or questions. Remember that more than 80% of patients get well within 7-10 days but with the escalating number of cases, we will continue to see complications and hospitalization of many. Stay hydrated, exercise daily, monitor your temperature if you feel ill (temp over 100.4 is significant), and keep up your daily medications. We can likely count on this scenario for at least another two weeks, minimum. Finally, don’t panic if your doctor tells you that a test is not necessary. There is still no adequate or approved treatment for this virus even today and while test kits are increasing in number, turnaround time takes days in many cases. The treatments you may hear or read about, remain restricted to the critically ill or hospitalized patients so that side effects may be monitored. If you have mild to moderate symptoms, your physician will likely have you remain home for at least 7 days or until you have remained fever free for over 72 hrs, whichever is greater. Stay well, be safe, wash your hands, and remain vigilant!
Here’s what Mens Health Magazine is saying about working out at the gym while the COVID19 virus circulates in so many US cities.
Should You Go to a Group Fitness Class During the Coronavirus Pandemic? What to know before you go.
Epidemiologists at the CDC as well as local physicians have this reason among many for suggesting that we all take a deep breath, wash our hands, stay home when sick, and be smart. We should also diminish our social exposure, at least, for the foreseeable future to help manage this novel Covid19 virus. Let’s make this a team effort! Now flatten that curve and stay healthy!
