‼️ UPDATE ON SB 228 / Action Alert 14- We have been informed Senator Patrick McMath will NOT be moving forward with his bill originally scheduled to be heard on the House Floor today. It appears the intent of Sen. McMath was not to take anything from the disability community.
He is now working with Rep. Riser on HB 376 which extends the law on Medical Ma*****na, and will be amending it to add the fee. The funds that will be deposited in the Disability Service Fund will go back to the original 7%.
Thank you to Sen. McMath and to all of you for reaching out to your legislators. Advocacy works!! 🎉 🙌🏻
‼️The Disability Services Fund is in jeopardy‼️
Advocates are encouraged to reach out to their State Representative NOW before this issue is discussed on the House Floor tomorrow, May 1st!

Our Story
We envision a system of services and supports in Louisiana which enable individuals with developmental disabilities to exercise self-determination, be independent, productive and integrated and included in all facets of community life.
The Council’s mission is to lead and promote advocacy, capacity building, and systemic change to improve the quality of life for individuals with developmental disabilities and their families.
The goal of the Developmental Disabilities Council is to effectively implement the Developmental Disabilities Assistance and Bill of Rights Act of 2000 in Louisiana. All actions and efforts undertaken by the Council, either directly or through funded grant projects, are directed to advocacy, capacity building and systems change activities to affect real and meaningful reform of Louisiana’s system of services and supports to individuals with developmental disabilities and their families. The Council advocates for the community services and supports desired by individuals with developmental disabilities and their families, increased availability of those supports for Louisiana’s citizens now waiting for those services, appropriate rebalancing of Louisiana’s resources to better meet the needs of our citizens with disabilities and their families, and reasonable fiscal expenditures to support high quality community services.
