Great Futures Start Here

OUR MISSION is to enable all young people, especially those who need us most, to reach their full potential as productive, caring, responsible citizens.

HISTORY & PURPOSE
In 1981, with the help of the Capital Area United Way and community leaders, the Boys Club was chartered in Baton Rouge and began serving boys at an old fire station on Winbourne Avenue. In 1990, the name was changed to the Boys & Girls Club of Greater Baton Rouge. Since that time, the Club has been in the forefront of youth development work in the Baton Rouge area, working with both boys & girls, many living in disadvantaged economic and social circumstances. Today the Club serves more than 8,000 youth annually through its traditional Boys & Girls Club after-school and summer programs at ten sites, in-school violence prevention curriculum, and Youth Legislature.

The Boys & Girls Club actively seeks to enrich the lives of girls and boys whom other youth agencies have failed to reach. We are dedicated to ensuring that our community’s disadvantaged youth have greater access to quality programs and services that will enhance their lives and shape their futures.

The Boys & Girls Club of Greater Baton Rouge is part of a nationwide affiliation of local, autonomous organizations that work to help young people of all backgrounds develop the qualities they need to become responsible citizens and leaders.

The Club currently operates eight after-school sites and offers daily access to a broad range of programs in five Core Program Areas: (1) Education and Career Development, (2) Character and Leadership Development, (3) Health and Life Skills, (4) The Arts, and (5) Sports, Fitness and Recreation.
