Lauren was fortunate to complete in person training in the of area diagnosing and treatment for Childhood Apraxia of Speech by the Once Upon a Time Foundation this past weekend. If you would like more information or have concerns please reach out to the office! More information about Childhood Apraxia of Speech can be found at https://childapraxiatreatment.org/.

Child Apraxia Treatment – Providing FREE resources to both parents and clinicians on evidence-based assessment and treatment of childhood apraxia of speech. Approximately 1 to 2 children out of 1,000 have CAS. Children with CAS have difficulty planning and programming the necessary movements to produce speech. Accurate apraxia diagnosis and specialized treatment are essential.

We are excited to announce a certification in the office. Lauren has achieved her QOM certification. This means she is now a Qualified Orofacial Myologist from Neo Health Services. This comes after 28 hours of course work and additional clinical work.

As defined by Sandra Holtzman, Orofacial Myology, also known as orofacial myofunctional therapy, is described as “the study and treatment of the oral and facial muscles as they relate to speech, dentition, chewing/bolus collection, swallowing, and overall mental and physical health.”

We found this app that targets language. We don’t know how long it will be free but it can be used to promote language. This could be a fun app for you to play with your little one.

One question that I am commonly asked is "what is the difference between anterior and posterior ties?"

In general, a tongue tie refers to any band of tissue underneath the tongue that is short, tight, or stiff that impacts the tongue's function.

The difference between anterior and posterior ties is all about location!

𝐀𝐧𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐢𝐨𝐫 𝐓𝐢𝐞𝐬: Anterior tongue ties are easy to locate and see because they are near a baby’s gum line when they raise their tongue.

𝐏𝐨𝐬𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐢𝐨𝐫 𝐓𝐢𝐞𝐬: A posterior tongue tie is located deeper in the mouth, further underneath the tongue. A posterior tongue tie can cause the same problems as an anterior tongue tie, even though it isn’t as easily visible.
