Joan Karff's Women On The Way Up
The program is dedicated to helping girls make wise career choices and develop an interest in those cultural activities that so enrich a life.
Each year ten carefully chosen girls meet weekly on Thursdays for an hour and a half to explore the worlds of art, dance, theater and classical music. Field trips are arranged on weekends to introduce these girls to the cultural offerings of Houston.

JKWOWU is celebrating Women’s History Month and International Women’s Day!
Happy Valentine’s Day!❤️ Whether you have a partner or not, today is a day to celebrate love! In our class, we practiced kindness and felt how meaningful a small compliment can make someone’s day! A special thank you to LocalFoods for sponsoring this week’s lunch!
Ending the month learning about what it means to be a mechanical or civil engineer! Thank you Jessica Cohen for not only sharing how fascinating your job is but also inspiring these women with your words.
Joan Karff’s legacy continues by uniting these altruistic people to support young women
We were fortunate to hear from Mitra Miller, an angel investor who created a nonprofit program to educate students from under-represented communities on finance, business, investing, and entrepreneurship. Think Shark Tank! Check out the Eagle Investors Program. Ms. Miller inspired them to work hard, take risks, and aim high.
This group is supported by amazing board members. Board member, Lauren Blachman, joined last week’s session to discuss her personal career path and provide us with the importance of how to build a network!
Later that night, I met with alumna and Board Member, Ilneisha Davis, to discuss ideas on to reach our 220 alumnae out there!
WOWU is growing and so are our ideas! Thank you to all that continue support us!
Huge shout out to our board member, Shunney Nair, for taking time to share her knowledge of The Clay Family Eastern. It was a fun way to get our steps in while reconnecting with other fabulous Women! She’s so sweet, she even created treats for the group. Thank you Shunney!
Beautiful weather to meet at the park with our Alumnae this Saturday!

This time last week, we enjoyed our first field trip! Started off at Cafe Ginger to try some new dishes and even learned (or practiced) our chopstick skills. We ended our day with a matinee to see the VERY high energy performance of POTUS at Stages Theater!

A good night's sleep is one of the key factors of good health. Experts suggest adults get at least 7 hours or more, school-age children should get at least 9. ❤️
Today is first day of school for HISD! Wishing everyone a fabulous year. A special shout-out to this year’s seniors, especially the 10 in this group!
