Happy Earth Day. 🌍 Today, we reflect on the Earth’s many nourishments. Connecting to our natural surroundings is one way to reduce stress and improve well-being. Forest Bathing is a practice that first emerged in Japan in the 1980s. The exercise was developed as a way to counter burnout and inspire people to protect their habitat. You can seek guided experiences or take it in on your own terms. If you’re local, Arkansas boasts some beautiful wooded areas. The holidays can be magical, and challenging for many. According to the American Psychological Association, 38% of people surveyed said their stress increased during the season. Here are three tips for centering your well-being:
📝 Set intentions. Craft a short statement about your intentions for the holiday season and use that to guide your choices about how you spend your time. Choose from the heart, and kindly decline things that require more energy than they provide. Here’s the Whole Health Reflection Tool to guide your way: https://bit.ly/3yCxpH9
🏃♀️ Move your body. Hosting or traveling this season? No worries - bundle up and go outside for a holiday hike or move around the airport between flights.
😮💨 Breathe. If anxiety sets in, focus on your breath. Inhale deeply through your nose and out through your mouth. Repeat and hold a few seconds as you feel comfortable. After a few rounds, you may notice a difference in how you feel. Your breath is a powerful tool, offering oxygen to your brain and nervous system. Consider adding an intention to the inhales and exhales. Check out this audio breathing resource for more insight: https://bit.ly/3F5DNc1
