Nestled in the extraordinary University of California - Santa Cruz setting the Kresge College expansion project recently won the top Honor Award from the American Institute of Architect San Francisco Chapter for 2024! In collaboration with Studio Gang and TEF Architects, our charge was to seamlessly weave advanced audio/video technology into the architecture, enhancing the teaching environments while making the spaces intimate and approachable. Heading to the SCUP Pacific Regional Conference in Seattle? We are.

Along with our collaborators from UCLA and BAR Architects & Interiors, we are hosting a panel discussion titled "Expanding Community: How to Create a Thriving Off-Campus Environment" at the upcoming SCUP Pacific Regional Conference in Seattle. This session will examine how and why an institution would extend its presence into its regional community.

UCLA's professional presenting arm sought to add a nimble and vibrant hub for performances and community gatherings, leading to the transformation of an historic movie house into The Nimoy Theatre. Our panel will explore the intricate process behind this revitalization project highlighting key strategies, challenges encountered, and approaches engaged along the way.

The transformation into The Buxton Center ensures that the theater can cater to the diverse needs of the community, further strengthening its role as a home for artistic expression and cultural enrichment. UCLA’s presenting arm, The Center for the Art of Performance, extended their reach off campus and into the Westwood community by adapting an underutilized, historically landmarked movie house. The newly imagined Nimoy Theater is an intimate theater that promises to be a hub for innovation and hope. This versatile workhorse marries elegance with simple adaptability, making it perfect for a wide variety of artistic performances. With enhanced acoustics, flexible seating, expandable staging options, and updated technical capabilities it’s an ideal space for emerging artists and experimental work. Our dedicated team played a pivotal role in preserving revered aspects of the venue while ensuring that art will “live long and prosper”.

Our team member Roger Chapman recently volunteered with the Brave Trails summer camp program for 12-18 year-olds in Big Bear, California teaching a workshop on how the magic happens behind the scenes in live entertainment. His broad range of theatre production experience allowed him to help the campers understand all the different aspects of the technical production world from the costumes of their favorite singer, to how all the different scenery pieces move in and out view in a seemingly effortless fashion.

Brave Trails

We were honored to be selected as theater and AV consultants by Texas Christian University for their new School of Music project. Named after piano virtuoso Van Cliburn, we joined our long-time collaborators Bora Architecture and Interiors, plus Acoustic Distinctions, and an exceptional team of design specialists and engineers. The result, said in appreciation for the entire team’s efforts, is breathtaking in all aspects: acoustically, visually, and operationally. The building’s greatest success is that it will serve TCU as an inspirational teaching, learning and performance facility for the University and Fort Worth region. The challenge of renovating a community jewel has paid off for Camas School District. With the assistance of Mahlum Architects & Todd Construction, they completed such a successful renovation that The Daily Journal of Commerce (DJC) awarded the Garver Theatre Renovation third place in Arts, Culture, & Entertainment for the 2022 TopProjects Awards Competition! The beloved auditorium was refurbished and the new two-story lobby can double as a rehearsal space, the green room can be a classroom, and the loading dock can be a workshop.

Among the 84 finalists, The Daily Journal of Commerce (DJC) awarded Adrien Nelson High School third place in Primary Education in the 2022 TopProjects Awards Competition! The new school provides increased classroom space for students and creates equity with other district high schools. Congratulations to Portland Metro for the Arlene Schnitzer Concert Hall Acoustical Enhancement Project! Since 2015, The Shalleck Collaborative has been sponsoring the keynote performing arts sector events at the International Association of Venue Managers’ VenueConnect Conference. This spectacular event is a gathering for executives and managers of performing arts sectors across the US and abroad; as well as people like us who work with them. This July, we’re packing our sunscreen for Phoenix! Join us as we collaborate on a performing arts sector “Welcome Back” and a series of sessions at the beginning of the conference known as “A Day at the Theater” on July 19. See you there.

When not working on our theatres our AV team gets a workout, and the trophies are coming in.



In the extensive fitness studios at the Cañada College Kinesiology and Wellness Center, we put in high-output audio playback systems and an integrated virtual fitness platform. The cycling studio incorporates a 3x3 video wall for streaming during virtual instruction. Other challenges included the building-wide zoned paging and background music system, a competition gymnasium, an activated roof area and competition outdoor pool decks.

Among all the teaching and performance spaces we recently completed at San Francisco Conservatory of Music’s Bowes Center, it’s gratifying to see our AV systems in Studio G put to such notable uses and garnering such praise.



To support flexibility and ease of use we motorized the overhead grid units to raise and lower the AV and lighting equipment.

Just in Time for Curtain Call! The San Francisco War Memorial Opera House Welcomes Audiences!
The Shalleck Collaborative team has been working with the San Francisco Opera, San Francisco Ballet and the San Francisco War Memorial to systematically replace the seats at the Opera House.
