Welcome to the 2024 UC Berkeley Study Abroad Sticker Design Contest!!!

Help us promote study abroad across campus and around the world! Show off your design skills and compete for a chance to have your work printed and distributed as a sticker to thousands of students. The competition is open to all UC Berkeley students, regardless if you have studied abroad or not.

Design details:
The ideal sticker design should capture the spirit of study abroad. The sticker will be a 3”x3” live area shape of your choice and will be in full color. The only requirements are that your design includes “Berkeley Study Abroad” and “studyabroad.berkeley.edu”.

Submission details:
Submit your sticker design(s) using the Google form in our bio by 11:59pm PDT on September 25. Submitted artwork should be a CMYK, high resolution jpeg (100% size at least 300 dpi), vector file format or pdf. You may submit up to 3 designs.

Judging details:
Berkeley Study Abroad staff will narrow down the submissions to the finalists. Once the finalists are chosen, the public will then determine who the competition winner is via voting through a Google form. The winning designer will be informed around October 7. In addition to having their work made into stickers, the winning designer will also receive a $100 gift card.

We're excited to announce the launch of our Spring semester option of the Social-Ecological Sustainability program, and we invite you to join us for an information session where you can learn more about it!

This session will provide an overview of the program, its benefits, and how it can complement your UC academic career. The session is perfect for those who've already signed up or are still mulling it over; this is a great opportunity for you to "meet" program staff, get additional information about the program and life abroad, and ask questions.

The session is scheduled at 09:00am on June 25, 2024.

Studying abroad isn't always about the places, sometimes it's about spending time with the people!

"This photo was taken during a trip to Blue Mountains National Park. This is an important memory to me because it was the first time that the entire UC Berkeley cohort went on a day-trip together! We traveled there via train and were able to spend the day wandering along different hiking trails, browsing collections at vintage stores, and even visiting a local art exhibition."

Just because you're in another country doesn't mean you can't take mini vacations while you're there! See how TIffany spent 3 days on her trip abroad!

"My friends and I planned a 3-day vacation to Hualien to try out the various water activities, including river rafting and surfing! After learning the basics of surfing, we were immediately put to the test and began learning how to ride waves in the Hualien waters. Although there was a slight language barrier, we were able to quickly find a common ground and surf with locals!"

There are just some things that can't be done in Berkeley and that's okay! That's why we want you to study abroad and see what the world has to offer! See what Malia did while studying abroad in Australia.

"This photo was taken during a day trip to Newcastle, Australia! I went with a few of my friends from UC Berkeley so that we could learn how to sandboard! I'm not going to lie: we fell a lot and got pretty sunburned. But, the day was one full of laughter and will be hard to forget."

We have 2 info sessions on Monday, March 11 both at 4:00 PM.

One a Summer Abroad info session for the Philippines and one for our Summer Abroad Puebla program! Both of them start at 4:00 pm.

Some extra info with the Philippines program is that a new scholarship is available! All UC Berkeley students admitted to the program will automatically be awarded a $1,000 scholarship. Note this is in addition to the $1,500 BSA scholarship automatically awarded to students who are financial aid eligible whose EFC is less than $50,000.

And with the Puebla program, each student accepted into the program in 2024 will receive a $1,000 scholarship!

Come join us at these events to learn how you can get scholarships and travel this summer while earning credit!

The origin of some boba tea ingredients can only take place in so many places! See Tiffany's story in Taiwan and what she found!

"For my class centered around learning about Taiwan's natural environment, we were tasked to self-plan a trip that would either teach us about Taiwan's geography, flora/fauna, food, or something related. In the class, we learned that Aiyu, a jelly that is found in many boba shops as a topping, is made from the Aiyu plant that can only be grown in Taiwan. I researched, coordinated with the farm, and made the itinerary for our little trip to Yilan. Here, we learned all about the Aiyu plant and was able to make the jelly ourselves as a DIY activity. Behind us are rows and rows of Aiyu trees grown in Yilan, Taiwan."

Staying awake until the sun comes up can be a mixed bag. Sometimes your nose is buried in a book and you're on your 5th coffee with a final hours away and other times, you're in Brazil. Read about Wesley's experience while studying abroad in Brazil below!

"Since the start of our journey to Brazil, we made it a goal of ours to stay up all night until the sun comes out and on our last day in Rio, we made our wish come true and all walked along the sandy beach one last time and shared a special moment while we saw the bright golden sun appear over the horizon."

Studying Abroad allows you to take in the culture in a variety of ways. Read what Yuka did while studying abroad with the Island Sustainability Program (Gump South Pacific Research Station) in French Polynesia.

"We learned Tahitian drumming during the study abroad program. The class was held right outside our dormitory, with the view of the beautiful bay. Local Tahitian told us the drum and all the difference in instruments. On the island, we hear the drumming everyday and drumming is part of the local people’s life."

Each UC Berkeley student accepted into the program in 2024 will receive a $1,000 scholarship!

Join us for an Info Session Feb 26 at 4:30 pm in the Fannie Lou Hamer Black Resource Center to learn all there is to know about our Summer Abroad Program in Ghana!

This immersive experience in Ghana explores the history of seminal Pan Afrikan Social Movements using the Ghanaian Independence Movement as a case study. Engage with work from revolutionary scholars and leaders like Kwame Nkrumah to understand how communities in Ghana, and globally, think about revolutionary praxis and theories of liberation today.

Students will visit important and historic sites, meet with local community leaders and organizations, and visit villages outside of the city center to learn more and explore these themes. All the while, students will dive into the vibrant cultures of Ghana, engage with the arts/food scene, learn how to make traditional crafts, participate in dance & drumming workshops, and visit various major cities and outlying villages. This program is an in-depth exploration of Pan Afrikan social movements in (and inspired by) Ghana, and how we can continue to learn from and engage with those struggles today.
