Anxiety comes in different forms, and it's okay to feel confused about GAD and OCD. They're like cousins - related but unique! GAD is like a constant worry cloud, while OCD involves specific thoughts and actions on repeat. Understanding yourself is a journey, and we're here to support you every step of the way. 🌿
The power of "No" is your secret weapon for mental health. Self-care isn't just A priority—it's THE priority. Saying "No" to others is saying "Yes" to yourself. It's not selfish; it's essential. Each "No" sets boundaries, preserves energy, and prioritizes your well-being. Before saying yes out of obligation, ask: "Am I saying No to myself?"
Your future self will thank you for the No's you say today.
"What happens in this house stays in this house."
Let's talk about it.
This statement is one that is common amongst families and has framed the way we live as individuals. It's the kind of thing our families say with the best intentions, trying to keep us safe and sound and we continue this way of life into our adulthood. But here's the twist: these protective words can actually lead us toward isolation, secrecy, unacknowledged pain and trauma.
In our attempt to protect ourselves by keeping “our business” to ourselves, we live with a blind acceptance of unmet needs, hurt, pain and grief. We learn to not only ignore uncomfortable feelings and triggers, but accept them as a normal part of life. We build walls instead of bridges, keeping our true selves under wraps, and tucking away our hurts in the deepest corners of our hearts.
Our acceptance of this way of life limits our ability to pursue mental health and we miss out on real connections. When we're always putting up a front or we don't give others the chance to really know us - or to share their own struggles, we end up in this weird dance where everyone's pretending to have it all together. It’s in an effort to protect ourselves, but nobody's getting the support that they need.
By not opening up about what's really going on in our homes and within ourselves, we're not protecting ourselves at all. We're actually causing more harm. Talking about our lives - the good, the bad, and the downright messy - that's where the real magic happens. It's how we connect, how we heal, and how we grow. You never know who might need to hear what you're going through in order to free themselves. 🌿
Is this a statement you've heard before? What are your thoughts?
"We're all weak." Crazy statement right? No one wants to willingly admit and own this truth. But there is so much power and strength to be harnessed in our weakness. When we can openly admit the ways that we are lacking, we give ourselves the amazing opportunity to be supported, loved, and lifted by those around us.
So don't hesitate to be honest about what you are going through. We're all navigating something, but it's better to navigate it together. Sometimes the strongest thing you can do is admit that you are weak.
Let's lean on each other. 🌿
Today, as we celebrate the 4th of July, let's take a moment to reflect on the rich tapestry of our nation's history and the diverse experiences that shape our present.
This day holds different meanings for each of us. For many, it's a celebration of independence, while for others, it's a reminder of the ongoing journey towards true liberty and justice for all. Our country's story is one of both progress and challenges, and it's important to acknowledge that the promise of freedom has not been equally realized for everyone.
Today, let's come together in a spirit of understanding and empathy. Let's honor those who have fought - and continue to fight - for equality and dignity. Their efforts remind us that patriotism can take many forms, including the pursuit of positive change.
Whether you're celebrating or reflecting, may this day inspire us all to work towards a future where the ideals of liberty and justice are fully realized for every individual. Together, we can strive to build a more inclusive and equitable nation – one that lives up to its highest aspirations.
Here's to thoughtful conversation, mutual respect, and a shared commitment to progress. Wishing everyone a meaningful 4th of July. 🇺🇸
July holds a special place in our hearts as we celebrate Bebe Moore Campbell National Minority Mental Health Awareness Month.
Bebe Moore Campbell was not just a New York Times bestselling author, but a fierce mental health advocate who understood the unique challenges faced by minority communities. Her journey began with a deeply personal experience – watching her daughter struggle with mental illness while facing cultural stigma and limited access to care. Instead of staying silent, she chose to use her voice and her pen to make a difference.
She co-founded NAMI Urban Los Angeles, wrote children's books about mental health, and tirelessly advocated for mental health education and support in diverse communities. Campbell's powerful words, "Once my loved ones accepted the diagnosis, healing began for the entire family," continue to resonate with many of us today.
Sadly, Campbell passed away in 2006, but her legacy lives on. In 2008, the U.S. House of Representatives designated July as Bebe Moore Campbell National Minority Mental Health Awareness Month, ensuring her work continues to inspire and create change.
This July, let's honor Campbell's memory by continuing her mission. Whether it's sharing our own stories, supporting diverse mental health professionals, or simply checking in on a friend – every action counts. 🌿
Building trust in your relationships requires awareness and intention.
Trusting someone, means having confidence in who they are as a person. It's not just about your feelings but a shared bond where trust flows both ways. To be trusted, you need to extend trust as well.
Building trust comes from openly communicating and being consistent in what you say and do. It's not always easy, but it’s essential. Trust is perhaps the hardest but most crucial part of any relationship. Without it, our connections with others can't reach that genuine depth we all crave. 🌿
We often come to know ourselves through our relationships with others. Interactions with friends, family, and partners reflect our values, strengths, and areas for growth. These connections shape our self-awareness and help us understand our identity. Embrace the lessons and insights that come from your relationships. 🌿
Honoring the past, embracing the future. Juneteenth is a reminder that freedom is a journey, not a destination. Today we celebrate resilience, culture, and the power of unity. Let’s keep marching forward, lifting every voice, and spreading love. Happy Juneteenth! 🌿
It is possible to experience many different feelings simultaneously; that's what it means to be human. It's okay.
Hold space for duality and be gracious with yourself as you journey through all of the different emotions. 🌿
Let’s get centered.
Embrace the calming effects of diaphragmatic breathing. Taking deep breaths helps relax the mind and body by fully engaging the diaphragm, allowing for more efficient oxygen exchange and a deeper sense of relaxation. 🌿
Vulnerability, often perceived as weakness, is our greatest strength. It’s through vulnerability that we connect with others on a deeper level, fostering genuine relationships built on trust and authenticity. By embracing vulnerability, we cultivate resilience and courage, facing challenges with an open heart and mind. It allows us to acknowledge our imperfections and learn from them, leading to personal growth and self-discovery. Ultimately, vulnerability empowers us to live wholeheartedly, embracing both the joys and uncertainties of life with grace and compassion. 🌿

We are celebrating Self-care Awareness Month this September. This is a time to remind us that taking care of ourselves is essential. Self-care is often neglected in our everyday lives. We tend to put others and their needs first before our own, but true self-care is NOT self-centered or selfish! It is necessary. How do you self-care?

Happy holidays!
2022 has been a trying year for some, and the holiday season is often the most difficult.
With this in mind, it's important that we all make sure to take care of our mental health during this time. As much as getting together with family can be enjoyed, don't forget to focus on self-care - try something new, catch up on a show you've been putting off, take some time to read or listen to music.
Whatever it is that brings joy and relaxation into your life, do that!
Here's wishing you lots of relaxation and self-care over the holidays from our family to yours!
As the holidays quickly approach and the end of another year draws near, it is important to take care of yourself.
Self-care isn’t only about physical wellbeing, but also about mental health. Being mindful of your mental well being over the holidays can help keep things in perspective and make sure you enjoy the season without becoming overwhelmed.
Taking periodic breaks throughout the day or during busy times. This can provide some valuable “you” time that helps keep stress at bay and start off 2023 on a positive note.

Such an honor to have been a 2022 LA Times Inspirational Women’s Award Nominee. Next to these amazing women!
It's so easy to second-guess our emotions.
We try to talk ourselves out of feeling the way we do, because we think we must be overreacting or exaggerating. But the truth is, our feelings are valid.
We have a right to feel whatever we feel, and it's okay if those feelings aren't rational or logical.
⛈Maybe we're hurt because someone said something that struck a nerve.
⛈Maybe we're angry because we keep getting passed over for opportunities.
⛈Maybe we're frustrated because we feel like we're not being heard. Whatever the reason, it's okay to feel what we feel. And it's okay to need some time to process those feelings and figure out what to do with them.
So if you're feeling something, don't try to push it away. Allow yourself to fully feel it, and then figure out how you want to deal with it from there.
