This year's mission to Vietnam was especially productive. Our team performed more stage 1 microtia surgeries than had been performed on any prior HUGS mission.
During the first stage of microtia surgery, rib is removed from the patient's chest and an ear framework is carefully carved and otherwise constructed. The framework is then implanted under the skin where the ear should be located.

This is an example of a patient for whom I made an ear on this week's mission to Vietnam.

We reconstruct ears for children using their own rib cartilage. During the first stage of microtia surgery, rib is removed from the patient's chest and an ear framework is carefully carved and otherwise constructed then implanted under the skin.

We were pleased to welcome Dr. Ruli , who visited our surgery center last week from Italy to observe surgery and my lip lift techniques.
