In an effort to make The Fair more inclusive of all New Yorkers, The Great New York State Fair has announced the addition of a dedicated sensory room and sensory-friendly hours. The sensory room will be open daily from 10:00 a.m. – 5 p.m. In addition, The Fair will offer a sensory-friendly day on Tuesday, August 27 from 9:00 a.m. through 1:00 p.m.

Come visit our information table at the Guthrie Lourdes Day of Wellness on July 31st at the First Presbyterian Church in Johnson City, NY from 10am to 4pm. This event will feature a variety of health and wellness resources including the Guthrie Lourdes Mammo on the Move, the Guthrie Dental Mobile Van and the Guthrie Lourdes Hospital Oncology Navigators will be available to offer support and information for those navigating the challenges of cancer treatment. Our Story

The Community Habilitation Program at STIC is person-centered, community and home based program. Direct Support Professionals (DSP) are trained to work as a team with individuals, Service Coordinators, parent/advocates and family members. Individuals learn new skills while planning life goals which allow the individual to become as independent as possible. One-on-one services are provided to individuals with an emphasis on the likes, wants, needs and dreams of each individual in the program.


Examples of activities, goals and skills commonly worked on in the Community Habilitation Program include, but are not limited to:


β€’ Community Inclusion β€’ Money Management β€’ Situational Safety Skills β€’ Cleaning β€’ Socialization β€’ Self Advocacy β€’ Personal Hygiene β€’ Money Skills β€’ Cooking/Food Shopping Skills β€’ Use of Public Transportation β€’ Time Management β€’ Personal Hygiene β€’ Diet and Exercise β€’ Volunteering

Eligibility/Funding

To participate in this service an individual must have a developmental disability, be eligible for Medicaid, and be enrolled in the Home and Community Based Services Waiver (HCBS). STIC Community Habilitation services are funded by the Office For People with Developmental Disabilities (OPWDD) through the HCBS waiver. Prior approval from the Broome Developmental Disabilities Services Office is needed to receive Community Habilitation.
