Meet Kevin,

Kevin has been with Nannen Physical Therapy for 23 years. Kevin is from Sedalia, Missouri which is a town the size of Fremont, and found on your way to Lake of the Ozarks. Kevin attended Creighton University for both undergrad and PT school.

Kevin chose to be a PT for his love of sports, activity, and helping people. In school he enjoyed exercise science classes, and learning about how the body reacts to exercise. That continued to pique his interest in PT. His father was also a PT so he had a strong understanding of the profession prior to school.

“I think the most important part of PT is being a good listener with patients, to be able to understand what their problems are and to work together to help improve their dysfunction/challenges.”

Kevin is married and has 4 children, 3 boys and 1 girl ranging from 12-20 years old. His kids keep him busy with all their activities. They have all played soccer and have many other interests, including band, cross country, and basketball. In Kev's spare time he enjoys coaching soccer, spending time with friends and family, listening to music, running, hiking, being a beach bum, and making yummy food.

If you could have a lifetime supply of anything, what would it be?
-“ I would love a lifetime supply of friends, family, music, and good food..or crunch berries!”

What is your favorite movie line?
-"Oh rat farts" from Caddyshack when the Bishop is playing the round of his life through a thunderstorm with Carl and he misses a put on the 18th green, and yells "oh rat farts!”

What's the dumbest injury you have ever had?
-“I broke my toe by walking into a trunk in the middle of the night and hitting my toe on the leg of the trunk. It had been moved by one of the kids during the day and was not in its usual place.

Kevin can be seen in the Blair clinic on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday from 7-6.

Meet Nick!

Nick is the newest member of the Nannen Physical Therapy Team. Nick will be spending most of his time at the Omaha location, in the Jewish Community Center.

Nick was born and raised in Omaha. He attended Hastings College where he played soccer, and then went on to earn his DPT at Creighton University. He chose to go into Physical Therapy because he wanted to start a career in healthcare and help people. He was initially drawn to it when he went through PT after an injury and successfully returned to playing soccer.

In Nick's opinion, the most important part of Physical Therapy is the holistic aspect of reducing pain by improving mobility and strength. By optimizing movement, PT's play a vital role in improving pain and function for patients so they can return to their regular daily routine, work, and recreational activities. Throughout his career, he has become more invested in the potential that PT has to change our current health system from sickness care to preventative care.

What's the most interesting food you have eaten?
-On a trip to Scotland, I had some haggis bites. It wasn't in traditional preparation but was actually pretty tasty!

If you could be in any TV show, what would it be?
-The Simpsons. I feel like my formative years and humor were shaped by The Simpsons. I would love to be drawn into that world.

If you could be any animal, what would it be?
-A BlueJay. It would be fun to be able to fly, plus, Go Jays!

In his free time he enjoys soccer, golfing, cooking, and spending quality time with his wife and two boys.

Nick can be seen Monday-Friday at the JCC. If your would like to be scheduled with Nick in Omaha, you can reach him at (402) 427-9812.

Happy Administrative Professionals Day to Hannah and Jessa! We are thankful for all they do to keep all our clinics running efficiently!

04/20/2023

Meet Grant Rutledge! Grant has been a PT with us for 8 years.

Grant grew up in Plainview, NE and now lives in Fort Calhoun with his wife, Tessa, and 3 kids, Maddox, Grayson, and Tatum. He completed his undergraduate degree in Athletic Training at Nebraska Wesleyan before receiving his DPT from University of Nebraska Medical Center in 2014.

Like many others, Grant was first introduced to PT when he was injured during high school sports. After spending time with his PT throughout the rehab process, he realized he wanted to do something in the medical field and enjoyed how active the job was.

Grant thinks the most important part of PT is individualizing the rehab process and creating trust and relationships with patients. While getting to know his patients, he has been able to help them find personalized and efficient ways to improve their health and function, which is his favorite part of the job!

What is the strangest thing you have ever eaten?
-"For those who know me, I am the least adventurous eater. My dad once paid me $43.00 to eat an oyster I still regret it to this day, and the price has gone up significantly at this time”

Do you have a secret talent?
-“My wife says that it is being healthy despite not eating a single fruit or veggie for the last 30 years. I am aware that this is not sound nutritional advice, do as I say not as I do."

If you could have a lifetime supply of anything, what would It be?
-“I am a big fan of money, so a lifetime supply of money would be nice. If not that, then probably cheese or candy (Milk duds, PB M&Ms, Hot tamales, or Twizzler Nibs). “

In his free time, Grant enjoys coaching his kids' athletics, spending time outside, and playing basketball and golf as often as he can.

Grant can be seen at the Blair Clinic on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays from 9-6 and at the Fort Calhoun Clinic on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 8-5

04/10/2023

Meet Sara Jensen! Sara has been a PT with us for 3.5 years.

Sara was born and raised in South Sioux City, NE but now lives in Blair. She completed her undergraduate degree in Applied Human and Sport Physiology from Wayne State College before receiving her Doctor of Physical Therapy from the University of Nebraska Medical Center in 2019.

While in high school, Sara was able to help in the athletic training room which was where she discovered that she enjoyed helping people through the rehab process; this ultimately led her to Physical Therapy as a career choice.

"To me, the most important part of PT is working with the patient to identify what their personal goals are and then using the exercises and activities throughout the sessions to help them reach those goals. I also love meeting new people and getting to know them throughout their time with us!"

What are the most used emojis on your phone?
-"Crying laughing face, eye roll, heart eye"

Does round or square pizza tase better?
-"Round, 100%"

Who wins a fight between Superman and Batman?
-"Superman, but if we are talking movies, the Dark Knight Trilogy definitely wins that fight!"

Meet Casey Dahlkoetter!

Casey was born and raised in Grand Island, NE but is currently living in Omaha. He graduated with a bachelors from UNL in Nutrition Science before getting his Doctorate of Physical Therapy from Missouri State in 2021.

Going through the rehab process himself quite a few times allowed Casey to see the benefits first hand and more importantly and seeing the field of medicine was the right place for him. Like a lot of PTs, Casey has been keen on helping people, no matter the circumstance.

"I think the most important part of Physical Therapy is being able to connect with a patient. Developing a rapport not only can make their treatment more fun, but it really allows us as a provider to see what their goals are and how to best achieve them."- Casey

What is something you're very stubborn about that nobody can change your mind on?
- "That Hamburger pizza is the best kind of pizza."

What's Skill you wish you had but don't?
- "I wish I was fluent in Spanish, German, ASL, or some other language, as well any other number of skills to make my golf game better than it currently is"

What do you prefer, talking on the phone or texting?
- "I always enjoy daily chats via text with my friends and family. But I definitely prefer a phone call/ facetime for more serious conversations or when catching up."

In his free time, Casey enjoys hiking, white water rafting, golfing, playing basketball, working out, and hanging out with friends.

Casey can be seen at the Blair office - Mon-Wed-Fri 9-6pm
or at the Chatt Center in Tekamah - Tue and Thurs 9-6pm

July is UV safety awareness month, and with the weather predicted for this week it will be especially important to protect yourself! Ultraviolet (UV) radiation is a form of non-ionizing radiation that is emitted from the sun. While UV light helps with production of vitamin D, over exposure can cause premature aging of the skin, skin cancer, and increases the risk of blinding eye diseases. So if you are planning to spend some time outdoors, make sure to protect your eyes and skin with these tips!

Low back pain is common. At some point in their lives, 80% to 90% of the adult population will experience low back pain. Unfortunately, studies show that many people with low back pain don’t get treatment that aligns with best evidence-based practices.

Myth 1: A study showed that exercise was proven to be more effective than manipulation (only 10% required manipulation)

Myth 2: These types of passive treatments provide no long-term benefit, do not treat the underlying problem, and do not speed healing time.

Myth 3: Inflammation does occur in certain conditions, and may be present when low back pain is acute. However, the majority of low back pain is mechanical and responds well to mechanical treatments such as prescribed exercise, aerobic exercise, stabilization, stretching, and posture education.

Myth 4: While studies show that arthritis is present in 90% of those between the ages of 50-55, only 10% experience arthritis-related pain. Arthritis is associated with aging, but not always associated with pain.

Myth 5: It is recommended that you exercise and get active and mobile as soon as possible.

If low back pain keeps you from moving and enjoying life, a Physical Therapist can help! Physical Therapists are movement experts, they improve quality of life through hands-on care, patient education, and prescribed movement.

Have a great holiday weekend!

08/05/2021

With temperatures rising again over the weekend don’t forget to keep your fluid intake up if you are outside! Drinks like soda, alcohol, sugary drinks, and caffeinated beverages can worsen dehydration. Severe dehydration can cause lasting effects and can be avoided. The US National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine recommends that women drink 11.5 cups of water per day and men drink 15.5 cups of water per day.

07/15/2021

Physical Therapy can help reduce prolonged use of narcotic pain medications in many cases. Don’t suffer in silence, call and see how we can help today!
