Congratulations are extended to Tim Chang, student of June Chang. He earned the Ruth Anderson Award for the highest score in the level 11:Capstone Comprehensive exams for 2023-24.
Tim Chang, who has been playing piano since 5, fell in love with classical music.
He is the first place winner of MMTA Young Artist Piano Competition both at Junior level in 2019 and at Senior level in 2023.
Tim currently is a freshman of UW-Madison, studying Engineering and Music.

2023-2024 Theory 8-Gladys Markley Award
Fiana Han will be an upcoming senior at East Ridge High school from 2024-2025. When in kindergarten, she began her private piano and violin lessons with Dr. Jackie Lo and has continued for 11 years.
In 2023 August, She passed the MMTA (Minnesota Music Teachers Association) Music Theory Level 8 exam (the highest level) with "Distinction", was awarded the “Gladys Markley Award” and Scholarship.
Fiana has participated in the MMTA piano contest many years and has been selected to participate in the MMTA Honors Concert several times.
In addition, in April 2023, Fiana also passed the MMTA Violin Grade 8 Exam (the highest level) with "High Distinction" and was awarded the highest scholarship.
In April 2024, she participated in the MMTA Young Artist Vocal and Instrumental Competition and won second place in the Senior Young Artist category. She was fortunate to participate in the Honors Concert held by MMTA in June and was awarded a $300 scholarship.

MTNA Competitions
Registration for Brass & Voice Performance (Senior and Young Artist) and
Chamber Music Competitions opens November 1.

Brass & Voice (Senior and Young Artist only) Performance Competitions are two-tiered competitions: the Preliminary Round, by video submission only; and the Final Round, live at the 2025 MTNA National Conference in Minneapolis, Minnesota.
Congratulations to Levi, student of Daniel Mockenhaupt! Levi received the highest score in Level 7 Theory and received the Jeanette Benson award.
Levi Gould is a homeschooled tenth grader in Sartell. Besides piano lessons, he is involved in a variety of activities, including karate, math league, and church youth group. Having started piano lessons at age four, Levi now puts his musical talents to work with the praise team at church and accompanying for beginning students at the St. Cloud Suzuki String Studio. He has enjoyed working through the MMTA levels since moving to Minnesota at age 6, but ultimately plans to pursue a career in something physics-related.
Help support students such as Levi by making a monetary donation to the MMTA Foundation. Each year nearly $22,000 is given out to students who achieve high scores in exams or in the young artist contest.

Congratulations is extended to Grace Zhou! Grace earned the highest score in Level 11 Piano Exam in 2023-2024. Grace is a soon-to-be sophomore at Minnetonka High School, has been studying piano with Ms. Eleonora Fishman from Kramer’s School of Music since the age of seven. Besides piano, she also enjoys playing violin and reading books.
Grace received a monetary award from the MMTA Foundation to recognize her accomplishment. Please consider donating to the MMTA Foundation to help continuing to fund awards such as this to recognize students.

Congratulations to Melody Ma who received the Senior Young Artist Strings 1st Place Award for 2024!
Melody is a rising Junior at Woodbury High School. She has been playing piano and violin for almost a decade and has been participating in MMTA events for many years. She is involved in Minnesota Youth Symphonies top orchestra, her schools Concert Orchestra, and the WHS Chamber Orchestra. She also partakes and holds leadership positions in several clubs such as National Honor Society, Key Club, and Tri-M. In her free time she enjoys being active, trying new foods, and picking up random skills!
