Check out this wonderfully compassionate initiative from the Monroe County Humane Association!! ๐Ÿ˜๐Ÿ’

This past Friday, members of MCHAโ€™s Street Outreach Team and Bloomington Police Department social workers raced the winter storm to visit a local encampment and collect several dogs owned by members of our unhoused community, transporting them to the MCHA E. Susan Bartlett Crisis Housing Center.

This initiative allowed owners the opportunity to seek refuge from the severe cold at local shelters, where pets might not typically be allowed to accompany them.

During their stay at MCHAโ€™s facility, these pets will receive essential preventive care and vaccinations. Once the frigid temperatures subside, the MCHA team will transport and reunite the pets with their owners.

For these individuals, the relationship with their pets transcends mere comfort and companionship; it becomes an essential source of stability and emotional support amidst the adversities of homelessness. Without a safe place for their pets during extreme weather, most would avoid seeking shelter for themselves.

This initiative, spearheaded by Dr. Mary Alice Cox and Outreach Coordinator Liz Austin, speaks to the very heart of MCHAโ€™s mission to provide every pet with the dignity and care they rightfully deserve.

Great recommendations here, for being prepared for safely helping injured wildlife! ๐Ÿ’•

https://m.facebook.com/story.php?story_fbid=770444035122171&id=100064697438196&sfnsn=mo&mibextid=I6gGtw

The sudden burst of warm weather has increased wildlife activity, leading to (anecdotally) more calls of animals hit by cars. If youโ€™ve been waiting for a sign to keep a wildlife transport kit in your car, this is that sign!

A bare-bones kit includes a sturdy cardboard box with lid, heavy gloves, and a towel. Many of our volunteers have the above along with a reflective vest, medical gloves, safety goggles, additional towel, scissors or wire cutters, pillowcase, and collapsible snow shovel. Please always stay safe and donโ€™t put yourself at risk when attempting a wildlife rescue. Do not offer the animal food or water, and give a wildlife rehabilitator a call ASAP so the animal can receive legal and professional help.

Flocke came into our care last last night after being struck by a car. She was immobile in the middle of a busy road here in Bloomington but two wildlife lovers refused to drive by. They were able to safely secure her in a box and reach out to us; sheโ€™s currently resting in an oxygen chamber and her wounds have been treated. The car struck her left side, causing head trauma, an injury around that eye, blood coming out of her nose and ear, a tooth was knocked out, and the force of the collision sent her flying resulting in assorted scrapes and punctures. Sheโ€™s perked up enough to lap a softened diet and weโ€™ll continue to support her in her journey to recovery ๐Ÿคž

Today! ๐Ÿ’–

I'm extending an invitation to a guided practice of Reiki chanting and meditation, in celebration of Mikao Usui's lasting impact and legacy, in honor of his birthdate, August 15.

This event will be especially meaningful for students and practitioners of traditional Reiki, but even if you have not experienced Reiki yet, or these specific practices, you can benefit from attending and listening along to the guidance and meditations.

If there's time, we may stay on for a little bit after the meditation for a little social connection time too.

The event will take place:
โค๏ธ Monday, August 14, 8-9pm ET (5pm PT, 9am Japan - Aug 15)

Registration link, and more details: https://us02web.zoom.us/meeting/register/tZAqcOmrrzstH9LHAXm60RJSO0eS8467PQME

Once you register, you'll receive the Zoom link and links to add the event to your calendar.

I do not plan on recording this event, so please plan to attend live. If I do make a recording, it will only be shared with those who have registered for the event.

Donations can be made through a variety of platforms to support this offering. Details can be found on the registration page and in the confirmation email.

I look forward to seeing you there!

in peace and gratitude,

Kat

Ways to help Maui's companion animals and shelter animals! โค๏ธ๐Ÿพ๐Ÿ’–

08/03/2023

Yes!! ๐Ÿ’– Deep caring and kindness doesn't have to be only felt spontaneously out of shared times of tragedy ~ we can mindfully tap into that feeling and purposefully create emotional generosity, kindness, and caring in daily interactions, with anyone, all the time ๐Ÿฅฐโค๏ธ๐Ÿซ‚โค๏ธ

& it might be a measure of our own wellbeing, so if this is not something that feels possible currently, have deep self-compassion and caring, and start to shift things so you can have more space and time for what you need first ~ natural kindness can begin to flow again organically from there, as wellbeing begins to be restored ๐Ÿฅฐ It can take some time to replenish ourselves after (or during) prolonged stress or trauma, but it's worth it!!

A good way to start: sitting quietly and guiding your belly to move in and out with your breath (rather than focusing your breathing up in your chest). Belly expands like a balloon as you breathe in, belly deflates as you breathe out. This style of breath naturally activates the parasympathetic nervous system and moves us into our "rest and digest" state (the antidote to "fight flight or freeze"), and with practice, helps us feel super grounded and relaxed.๐Ÿพโค๏ธ

I have an unpopular opinion. I miss the lockdowns and after math in 2020. Now, hear me out, I don't miss the virus, or the fear, or the stress. I miss the world wide coming together. People, and I mean pretty much EVERYONE was uplifting, kind, helpful, in anyway they could be! Food was pouring in and we had plenty to give, which was good with the need doubling over night. Cash donations appeared all the time! Although many were afraid to volunteer, they would share posts and comments with kind words on everyone's pages. People would mow lawns of those needing it, no questions asked. You need something, you ask and it would show up magically on your doorstep. Everyone helped in anyway they could, be it money and items, to work and kindness. I have never seen such a time of kindness and willingness to help. And I'm not just talking about us, I mean this was world wide! It was an amazing time to be alive in!
Today, I see so much negativity. People picking apart anything and everyone over the smallest thing, stupid things really. It's on social media, its out in public. I feeling of the world is depressed, anxiety ridden, just mean. Can we please bring back the times of 2020 when we had the kindness? No matter where you are in the world, please try and make it a goal to do 1 thing kind everyday, even if it's a kindness to yourself, maybe you could use a chocolate bar or 10 min to relax. It does not have to involve money. Maybe smile and wave at someone, post a nice comment, congratulate or tell someone they are doing great, leave out some water for animals or bees, volunteer somewhere, ANYWHERE, tell kids they are amazing, tell someone you love them ( and really mean it ). SO much can be done! Seriously, con we please bring that feeling back? Feel free to share and challenge your friends.

Do you have an interest in wildlife rescue and live near Monroe County Indiana? Check out the post and Google Doc below to see if rabbit fostering (or other wildlife rehab volunteering) might be a good fit for you ๐Ÿฅฐ๐Ÿฅฐ

๐Ÿ‡ Psst, you... do you have a quiet and warm part of your home away from pets? Do you want to save animals lives and watch orphaned rabbits grow up? If so, please consider becoming a foster volunteer with us! Yesterday we answered calls about a total of 23 juveniles, and we're in need of more help to care for orphans. Cars, dogs, cats, and lawnmowers are all huge threats for these guys, and we accept animals from all over south central Indiana. Please use this link here for more information: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1Xnk6851pHctzFJBlxo3Yl_-uNsXrbAKgCmRHdSziml4/edit?usp=sharing. If you would rather get involved with other native wildlife, we have fosters with bats, opossums, and more! We also have volunteer shifts with hands-on rehabilitation of native wildlife, ranging from black vultures to shrews and everything in between. Baby season has started, and we could use all of the hands we can get!

Congratulations to Sahrayah Blackburn on her new certification as a traditional Reiki and Animal Reiki practitioner-in-training!

Sahrayah recently completed a hybrid Shoden & Animal Reiki 1 course online and in Bloomington Indiana. We enjoyed several training sessions and a couple of afternoons of practice with shelter animals and rescued equines.

Sahrayah is also a dog trainer and life coach and is looking forward to volunteering, growing her Reiki skills, and eventually incorporating Reiki into her professional offerings.

If you'd like to experience the benefits and practices of Reiki for personal development and wellbeing, I offer private and small-group instruction in hybrid form for traditional Reiki and Animal Reiki Levels 1-3. Hybrid courses combine in-person and online meeting times. I focus on the traditional roots of Reiki and include both light-touch and contactless approaches to supporting inner wellness. Reiki helps support all species, including wild animals, farmed animals, and domestic animal companions and their people. ๐Ÿพ๐Ÿ™

08/15/2022

This is the first year in some time that I haven't held an event around August 15 in honor of the birthday of the founder of the system we know as Reiki, Mikao Usui. (Not because I'm no longer interested: I have some projects and self-care that I'm putting my attention into at the present time, and I'm being very intentional in upholding those boundaries.) It feels good to be taking care of my own container in these ways. August 15 also happens to be National Relaxation Day! I am learning through personal repetition that it is very important to give ourselves mental and physical relaxation as part of our overall wellbeing. Rest is as important as activity for a well-balanced mind and body.

This week, I hope you will take moments to commemorate and celebrate the benefits of relaxation in all its forms, and to hold some appreciation and affection for our ancestral teacher Usui, who though we never got to meet him in person, continues to touch our lives in so many ways. I think he would be happy for anyone who chooses to live a simple life of patience, peacefulness, mindfulness, and dedication to mental and spiritual self-improvement.

Today is a good day to spend some time mentally focused on a simple practice as he would teach us. A good place to begin (and return to) is a centered breathing practice with gentle focus on the hara, feeling the belly rise and fall (not just breathing into the chest, but lengthening the breath into the belly), for several minutes. You will feel the natural relaxation response of the parasympathetic nervous system engage and draw you into a more peaceful and grounded state, where you can have greater access to your reasoned cognitive abilities.

A lovely breathing rhythm to practice, especially when life is full or if you are feeling anxious, stretched, or scattered.

May today bring you replenishment and peace! ๐Ÿ’–

If you are near Bloomington, Indiana, I have a private training opportunity coming up: a Shoden & Animal Reiki 1 course, beginning in mid-September. This will be a hybrid course combining in-person training and practice and Zoom training and practice.

The course introduces the foundational techniques that help you to self-regulate moods and emotions, develop resilience, encourage deep cellular and mental relaxation, lessen anxiety, become more present and mindful, feel more peace and contentment, and reduce fight-or-flight stress responses for yourself and for other creatures.

Our meetings will span September and October to support you in integrating the knowledge with ease. You will have multiple opportunities to practice the Reiki teachings of meditation, mindfulness, and mindset at home and with rescue animals.

This course is going to be an intentionally small, intimate, personal-attention class, so if this is your kind of environment, I encourage you to reach out! ๐Ÿ’–๐Ÿพ

You can reach me on Messenger or by email: [email protected].

So important to microchip these days, (& keep that info updated!), & always check strays for microchips right away in case they already have a family. Here's a great example of why! ๐Ÿ’๐Ÿ˜ป๐Ÿˆ๐Ÿ’•

Silly things like state lines won't stop us from reuniting lost pets and their owners! Daisy arrived at our Boston adoption center this morning for an appointment to be spayed and vaccinated,ย so imagine everyone's surprise to find she was already spayed, and microchipped. Staff contacted the microchip company and was even more astonished to learn that Daisy's people live in Maine! A couple of quick phone calls later and we were speaking with Ben, who couldn't believe that his cat who had been lost from S**o, Maine since October was somehow at our Boston adoption center. Daisy has been desperately missed, and after nine months her family had all but given up hope that she'd ever come home.ย

The person who brought Daisy in received her from someone a couple of months ago, and the rest of her story is a mystery. We appreciate her caretaker making the vet appointment that lead to this incredible reunion.ย

We'll never know how Daisy made her way from Vacationland to Beantown, but a few things are for sure:
Microchips work! Make sure to have your pets microchipped, the MSPCA offers $15 microchips and you can find more info at mspca.org/microchip
If your pet is chipped make sure your contact information is current. Too many pets have unregistered or out of date microchips.ย

If you find a pet, have it scanned by a vet or shelter so they can be reunited with their owners as soon as possible.ย

Thanks to a series of unusual events, Daisy is on her way back home where she belongs, with her loving family.

"Join" me for a shared experience of self-directed meditation tonight (July 21) around 10pm Eastern. We sit at the same time, with common purpose in heart-mind, but in our own spaces and in our own fashion.

Tonight I will be practicing in honor of animal rescue staff who love every animal they take in so much and are weary, exhausted, and overwhelmed with the volume of intakes they are trying so hard to accommodate and care for. (some due to overpopulation (spay & neuter!), some may have been pandemic pets, or downsized now due to economic troubles. There are always a lot of reasons, and I try to feel compassion for anyone who has to make those difficult decisions, too.)

You can practice for an animal shelter or rescue close to your heart, or for one near to mine; I've shared a couple posts recently on my wall which you can look to for inspiration. And you probably know one in your area that is in a similar situation. There are so many rescues that I adore, and they care for all kinds of species, from companion animals to wildlife to farmed animals. They are all so worthy!! ๐Ÿฅฐ๐Ÿ’•๐Ÿ’–

A huge thank you to all rescue staff and volunteers and fosters and medical providers and transporters who do everything possible to bring these animals to safety, good health, and happy, loving forever homes! ๐Ÿค—

An invitation to meditate with me tonight between about 7:30p-9p Eastern US time, to create space to support each other in living with balance, meaning, and wellbeing. Our heartfelt purpose tonight centers the issues surrounding the rights of people who could become pregnant in the US.

Modeling off our meditations for Ukraine, this is an opportunity to sit in collective intention with group support, in the comfort of your own home, in the style you enjoy and for the length of time that suits you best.

By sitting together we can create space for self-healing, as needed, as well as supporting each other and holding space for those in emotional distress and need.

Support for Ukraine - BLISS Reiki Newsletter, March 24, 2022 03/29/2022

Last week I compiled a list of great organizations to follow and support who are providing humanitarian aid to animals and humans impacted by the war in Ukraine. That list is available here as a digital copy of my email newsletter: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1Al741h1qtXKiGo5VLOc5gY4pRO26ftPaZykfvjOZiUc/edit?usp=sharing. The pdf newsletter (with clickable links) can be downloaded from my group files: www.fb.com/groups/blissanimalreiki. The complete list of links is also further down this post.

You are welcome to share this file or post with your friends. Thank you for your heartfelt attention and support for this humanitarian emergency! ๐Ÿ’–๐ŸŒป

BLISS Reiki Newsletter - March 24, 2022

Would you like to receive this news in your inbox? Email [email protected] to sign up.
Beautiful ones,

To follow up on my previous message about the Meditations for Peace in Ukraine (https://fb.me/e/4hV7vAdpm), I compiled for you a list of organizations that are delivering food, medical supplies, and other rescue and humanitarian aid to support people and animals who are staying in Ukraine, and as they pass through the borders into neighboring countries.

The organizations in the list below have all been mentioned on major news sites (and some are evaluated on charitynavigator.org), but as always, I recommend to do your own due diligence and make sure an organization or donation portal feels secure and reputable to you, before you enter any personal info.

(Note there are also many more recommended organizations out there, which you might like to support. I've chosen to highlight the ones that moved me the most, and that are supporting healing efforts (rather than military ones), which feels most in line with our ethics.)

I also want to share with you a couple of other resources on this day marking a month of this war. You'll find these below.

Thank you for your compassionate support, and for your caring attention to this significant humanitarian emergency.

with love, support, and blessings for peace,

Kat
