I met Michele at Bikram’s teacher training in the fall of 2001. We were a lot younger then. As you can see from watching the video her practice has progressed beautifully. She placed first in the women’s 50+ division. Never give up and never get complacent about your practice.
We have been on a cruise from Rome to Barcelona for the last ten days. Heading home tomorrow, teaching Tuesday 4:30!

Good morning! I’ve been teaching a few classes a week at Bikram Yoga Delray for the last six months. When Jon goes out of town he usually asks me to fill in several of his classes. Starting this week I’ll be teaching the following:

I took Teresa's class this morning at 10am. It was a great class. I had my Fitbit Blaze on during the class. I burned 428 calories in 90 minutes. 45 minutes in the fat burning zones and 35 minutes in cardio zone. I was somewhat surprised to burn so many calories after doing Bikram Yoga for almost 27 years. One of my newer students took my class last week and she burned over 500 calories. It works if you work it!

Standing Head to Knee Pose is the posture of the week for our series since it helps develop concentration, patience, and determination which we all need in our lives at one time or another.
On a physical level, Standing Head to Knee tightens abdominal and thigh muscles, improves flexibility of the sciatic nerves, and strengthens the tendons, biceps of the thigh muscles, and hamstrings in the legs, as well as the deltoid, trapezius, latissimus dorsi, scapula, biceps, and triceps.
For those who touch their forehead to their knee, you create front-side compression so you are also squeezing and flushing out the internal abdominal organs such as the gall bladder pancreas and spleen as well as the uterus and ovaries.

This week for we are taking a look at the Pranayama Standing Deep Breathing which should be done before any kind of physical activity since it expands the lungs to their full capacity.
Because of sedentary habits, most people use only ten percent of their lungs, never allowing the lungs too reach their maximum expansion capacity. As a result, they are susceptible to bronchitis, emphysema, asthma, shortness of breath, and dozens of other breathing problems. Standing Deep Breathing teaches you to use the other ninety percent of your lungs and it increases circulation to the whole body, waking everything up and preparing the muscles for action.

Lift your upper body up, using your 100% back strength. Come up halfway only, until only your belly button is touching the floor. The rest of your upper body is in the air. At the same time, from the side, your elbows should be "L" , 90° degree angle, like a rectangle!!
