Celebrating Tuition Equity for Massachusetts Students 10/26/2023

Massachusetts has now expanded eligibility for in-state tuition to students who have attended Massachusetts high schools for at least three years and earned a Massachusetts diploma, an expansion which will ensure that many non-U.S. citizens are able to access in-state tuition and financial aid rates at public higher education institutions in the Commonwealth.

To qualify for in-state tuition rates, students who are not US Citizens or Permanent Residents (Green Card) must all the following criteria:
➡️ Attended a Mass. High school for at least 3 years
➡️ Graduated from a Mass. High School or equivalent degree (Hi-Set/GED)
➡️ Complete a form or application at their community college, State University or UMass school.
➡️Students should contact the financial aid department of their respective public institution to complete this step.

Current and New college students are both eligible for tuition equity starting during the 2023-24 academic year revisions to student billing can be retroactive to July 1, 2023 when this law was passed.

It's College & Career Month in Boston Public Schools - the week 1 theme is Exploring My Skills & Interests.

Part of this is a focus on MyCAP!

What's MyCAP?

MyCAP is a student-directed process of self-discovery for college and career planning that leads to a unique personalized path toward post-secondary success. It is implemented in a variety of ways depending on each individual school's staffing, structure, and desired approach.

While the MyCAP system has been underway in BPS for a few years now in grades 9-12, last year, our team launched the middle grades MyCAP for grades 6-8, with over 40% of our 7th and 8th graders participating in MyCAP in this first year.

Wherever you are in the process, please connect with your school counseling team for an overview to learn more about MyCAP and share updates about current and ongoing projects and partnerships.

This tool is an important vehicle to connect all parts of the school community in the delivery of high-quality college and career planning.

The use of MyCAP is another way we affirm our collective commitment to ensuring successful student outcomes and a foundational aspect of our ultimate goal that every student has the opportunity, resources, and support they need to achieve their definition of success.
