A sharp cold front will bring HIGH WIND and a burst of heavy rain to New England early Monday.

On the left, you'll get a general idea for wind potential and where it is greatest. The way I see it now, peak gusts will be in the 40-55 MPH range for many areas shades in red. Those shaded in gold will see peak gusts in the 50-65 MPH range. For reference, a severe thunderstorm is defined when winds reach 58+ MPH, so these are pretty legit numbers!

The map on thre right is a little more science-y. It depicts wind speed about 4000FT above. The dark gold indicates an area where this wind overhead may be moving at a steady 90-95 MPH! This powerful wind aloft is important because it can be dragged down to the surface by storms. Between exposed terrain (particularly coastal areas) and the potential for weak storms to develop within the front, I believe the potential for isolated 70+ MPH gusts exists as well.

We'll be watching this closely and you should too. I'll have more details soon!

You probably heard today's snowfall referred to as "ocean-effect snow," but why did it form today? Here's a 60 second crash course on the WHY behind today's weather!

12/06/2023

The season's first snowfall was a good one for parts of the South Shore (if you weren't on the immediate coastline at least) with a widespread 1-3" of wet snow accumulating!

This was also Boston's first measurable snowfall of the season with the city picking up 0.2" officially.

12/06/2023

Boston’s first snowfall of the season!!! ❄️

It was also the first for much of SE Mass with several areas picking up a few inches! If you have reports, send em in!

12/05/2023

The first snow for many in Eastern Mass! ❄️

No more than a coating for most, but a couple inches are possible away from the immediate coastline in Plymouth County. May be an isolated 3" jackpot too. Snowfall wraps up around lunchtime.

12/05/2023

I have to admit, I didn’t expect to be zip-lining at work today! It was probably a good thing though, as I’ve had a lot of extra energy…

Why you ask…?

Well much of Eastern Mass has its first snow on the way, of course!! I’ll have the latest on Boston 25 News this evening ❄️

12/04/2023

Cold air aloft, a relatively warm ocean, and subtle surface convergence has much of Eastern Mass primed for its first snowfall! ❄️

Tuesday night through Wednesday morning, up to an inch (with locally higher amounts) of snow is possible. Best chances are in Plymouth County.

As always, let us know what you're seeing out there! I love being able to share your pics & vids on-air.

12/04/2023

Pretty quiet pattern over the next 7 days. Just prep for a burst of cold air midweek and a chance for a snow showers on Wednesday. We'll monitor a potential storm system next Sun/Mon, but that's it for now!

12/03/2023

Wet snow is being reported across much of S'ern NH & VT, even mixing into higher elevations in MA now too! Precip from this system (rain or snow) wraps up in a few hours with a couple showers lingering overnight.

Let us know what you're seeing out there!

12/02/2023

Looks like a decent snowfall for many of the New England ski resorts on Sunday night!

We'll probably see some mixing in the Berkshires, maaaybe Worcester Hills, but generally just rain through Massachusetts.

Photos from Tucker Antico's post 12/02/2023

Time to make note of our next storm system, which is set to impact New England in the second half of Sunday.

Heavy rain in MA/RI/CT. A mix to moderate snow in the mountains of VT/NH/ME. Could be a bit slushy in between.

More to come…

12/02/2023

Has December just felt less snowy to you?

It's something I've been hearing a lot, and as a snow-lover myself, I thought it was worth a look.

I have an answer to why it may feel this way, and what could be in store for us this month!

12/01/2023

If you're headed out shopping, to college hockey, perhaps the C's game... take an umbrella or rain jacket with you. Showers will be off & on, but the last of the rain (currently in the NYC area) won't be out until 11pm.

12/01/2023

If you’re still awake tonight or will be up early in the morning, take a look to the north!

A particularly strong series of solar flares has just made impact with Earth’s magnetic field. This means the northern lights may be visible!

In Northern New England, your odds appear to be pretty good! In Southern New England, you’ll certainly need a dark sky, but this chance is as good as any as of late!

If you do happen to see anything, drop it in the comments! Good luck!

12/01/2023

Had another great morning speaking to students today, this time with the 3rd & 4th graders at the Alexander Bruce School!

We talked all about weather and I’m certain there were a few future storm chasers in the room!! 🌪️

11/30/2023

It was a special honor to visit Inly School, where I attended from Pre-K through 8th Grade, to speak with students about weather today!

Throughout my years at the school, I received an immense amount of encouragement to continuously pursue my passion. So much of who I am today was built here.

As for the students today, I also made sure they know where to go when they pursue their career’s in meteorology! 😄

11/25/2023

Our next storm system will be a quick-hitter, arriving late Sunday night and exiting by mid morning.

Despite its speed, heavy rain will add up quickly. A general 0.50-1.00" is expected in SE Mass when all said and done! Breezy, cooler conditions will follow.

11/25/2023

Boston loses a 266 day streak of highs over 40 degrees with today's high of 37°.

We were less than a week from the all-time record (271 days), but will have to settle for longest streak since 1998.

Our next chance to experience a high in the 30s will come next week (Tuesday or Wednesday most likely).

Photos from Tucker Antico's post 11/25/2023

Dress warm this Saturday! It has a good chance to be the coldest day so far this season.

Temps to beat in Boston...
Coldest morning: 27°
Coldest afternoon: 40°

Temps revert to normal again by Sunday afternoon!

11/24/2023

Happy Thanksgiving everyone! 🦃

I’m incredibly thankful to have spent the day with family & friends at home this year. Great food and football included, of course.

I hope everyone finds some joy today, and yes, it is now acceptable to play Christmas music 😁

11/22/2023

Snow & rain are moving into New England!

A quick 1-3" snowfall is expected across Southern NH & higher elevations in MA, but most of it will melt by sunrise.

Heavy rain takes us through the morning with wind gusts 40+ mph at the coast.

If you happen to see any snow or get a measurement before it begins melting, you know where to send it!

11/20/2023

New England travel plans WILL be impacted by a messy storm system Tuesday night through Wednesday.

Snowfall and minor accumulation is likely across interior areas. Heavy rain is expected everywhere else. Strong wind with gusts of 30-40 MPH will be widespread as well.

11/18/2023

About 9/10 Novembers have produced snow in Boston, but is there a correlation with snowfall for the entire season?

As it turns out, Novembers without measurable snow do have some correlation to below average seasons. About 2 in 3, in fact. Also, we've seen an above average winter in all 5 years that 6+" of snow came in November.

In general though, it's not a very good indicator of what's ahead. Chances are near 50/50 for the vast majority of scenarios.

11/17/2023

Hope you enjoyed the mid 60s out there today! Tomorrow morning we deal with a cold front and a round of showers.

The sun will return in the afternoon, but a cold breeze will accompany. Temps fall into the upper 20s/low 30s overnight. Welcome back to November.

Photos from Tucker Antico's post 11/17/2023

One reason to be thankful this Thanksgiving?
The weather!

It’s expected to be chilly (highs in the 40s), but it’s much better than many years past.

150 years ago, it was 11° on the day! And anyone remember 4” of snowfall on Thanksgiving 1989!?

11/15/2023

Expecting rain for many this Saturday as our next weather-maker arrives. A system over the water brings periods of rain to the coast, while a cold front brings a round of showers to the rest.

A few spots may stay dry, but windy and much cooler weather will be unavoidable.

11/13/2023

We begin the new week with lows in the 20s across Southern New England! It's expected to be Boston's first low in the 20s since March 20th and comes just a day ahead of our first

11/11/2023

Did you know that the mere presence of snow on the ground can change our weather?

I can tell you from forecasting in Wisconsin, it's more than just a subtle difference too.

With the winter season just getting started, I explain how and why this may be, on Boston 25 News!

11/10/2023

Boston has not had consecutive dry days in the 40s since late last March! Will definitely be a few, "looks warmer than it really is," type of days across New England.

11/08/2023

Icy conditions may create a hazardous morning commute across portions of MA/NH/VT Thursday morning.

This will impact higher elevations where surface temps at or below freezing will coincide with light rain.

Should be no more than a chilly rain closer to the Boston metro.

Drive safe!

Photos from Tucker Antico's post 11/06/2023

MONDAY: Mostly cloudy and cool, but DRY. Temps will range from around 35-50F.

TUESDAY: Showers are generally kept to the early AM (4-8AM) with sun in the afternoon. Highs may push mid-upper 60s with a breeze!

Back to upper 40s on Wednesday...

Made it out to the TD Garden tonight, but for a basketball game!?

It was probably the first time in about 20 years I was here for anything other than hockey.

Meteorologist Alyssa Andrews wanted to make sure we didn’t miss Indiana in our new (or is it old for me…) hometown though. Other than the scoreboard, it was a great night! 😄

11/01/2023

Nothing like some snow to start the month of November! If you were at a high enough elevation in Western Mass, it really came down this morning!!!

10/30/2023

Debuted some fresh AR graphics for the evening news tonight!

Thought we'd keep you ahead of a rainy Monday with a modern look on Boston 25 News 😁

Had to snap a pic to document it… The LAST 80-degree day of 2023 in Boston 🥲

In fact, we tied the record high for today reaching 81 degrees! This also becomes the latest 80-degree high since 1950 and the third latest on record.

Maybe more impressive, it was dry on a Saturday 😂 Hope you all enjoyed!

Photos from Tucker Antico's post 10/28/2023

Mother Nature is pulling a fast one on us this weekend. On Saturday it's summer, by Sunday it's fall!

These will be our last 80s until next spring. We're also likely to see our first snowflakes in Northern New England too!

10/27/2023

SUMMER'S LAST HOORAH

Boston reached a high of 80 degrees today! 🔥

This is no record, but it is impressive. Our last 80-degree high comes on Sept. 30th on average and the latest it's ever occurred is a week from today, Nov. 2nd.

There's a chance we may repeat tomorrow and Saturday too!
After that, fall really sets in...

10/23/2023

Don't put the shorts away just yet!

Our coldest morning of the season comes Tuesday and we're off to the races after that! Looking forward to a string of 70s, and even better... DRY WEATHER!

Photos from Tucker Antico's post 10/22/2023

My first college hockey experience came in this arena back when I was in high school. After dozens of games at Penn State and nearly a decade, I finally made it back!

Got to see a huuuuge matchup between #2 Denver and #3 BC tonight. Having multiple Eagles in my family, you know who I was pulling for tonight. Go Eagles! 🦅

10/21/2023

The heaviest rain is exiting Southern New England, though it's unlikely to completely stop until later tonight. Wind gusts in the 30-40 MPH range will replace the wet weather overnight and on Sunday. This becomes our 6th rainy Saturday in the last 7...

Aaaand uhhhh... just going to pretend that football game didn't happen today.
