Over the past two days we spent time with a communication coach from Pinnacle who helped us to prepare for Pitchfest. We learned about different techniques to use to combat nerves, how to answer questions effectively, and how to be aware of our body language!

We just finished up our Spring semester classes and are about to head into summer semester. Over the summer we’ll start a new internship and work on our thesis projects. Just a couple months left until Pitchfest!

This is Mehar Haleem from New Delhi, India. She attended King’s College London for her undergrad and studied English Literature. Her main interest in Media Ventures is to discover the new ways people interact with the things they love. She is most excited to see her thesis project idea pan out!
❗️Student Spotlight Alert❗️This is Snigdha (Snig) Bhowmik. She grew up in Bangalore, India and completed her undergraduate studies there in Fashion Communication. She then went on to get her MA in Journalism and Publishing from The New School in NYC! Her primary interest in Media Ventures is learning how to creatively combine new media with the entertainment and fashion industries. She is most excited about gaining valuable experience in Los Angeles and collaborating with like-minded individuals in Hollywood to bounce ideas off of.

Tonight we heard from Nina Tassler, former Chair of CBS Entertainment, Dane Smith, published author and professor, Sofia Barros, International Publicity Coordinator at Paramount, Karen Horne, former Senior VP of DEI at Warner Brothers North America, and Jeff Mossa, feature film and TV designer. We appreciate your insight and advice regarding the entertainment industry!
❗️Class Spotlight❗️Shouting out our Wednesday night class, Promotion and Marketing with Professor Brian Gallagher! In this class we learn all about different types of digital marketing and even do a project about influencers!
Media Ventures has officially arrived at BULA! Yesterday was our first day of orientation where we learned about all things LA and finished the night off with the Young Alumni Panel featuring Tia Black, Asia Gordon, Nell Ovitt, and Jessie Xie. Thank you so much to the panelists for the amazing insight and advice!
We had a great time pitching our ventures at Pitch and Pizza last night. Huge shoutout to Eliza and Nick for winning fan favorite and runner up!
This week, we got the opportunity to attend Speed Mentoring at the BUild lab! This event gave us the chance to practice our elevator pitches and get feedback on our thesis projects from four different mentors! Thank you to the mentors and the BUild lab for hosting!

This is Nada Tuffaha. She grew up between Amman, Jordan and Boston, MA. Her undergraduate degree is in Early Childhood Education with a concentration in Administration & Leadership. Her main interest for MV is to eventually work in Creative Agency spaces. She is most excited to gain hands on experiences interning in LA and finishing off our program with Pitch Fest!

Shouting out our class Fundamentals of Interactive Media taught by Professor Margaret Wallace!
In this class we talk about the history of interactive media, innovation, and the future of media. We focus on topics such as artificial intelligence, video games, social media, design, user experience, and much more!

This is Jules Meacham from Los Gatos, California. She received her BA in Psychology from University of San Diego. Her main interest in Media Ventures is to work in the music industry and eventually become a music supervisor. She is most excited to intern in Los Angeles and gain experience in the entertainment industry!

Shouting out our class, The Media Money Trail, today! This class is taught my Professor Jodi Luber.
In this class we learn about the business practices of different media companies and their successes and failures. We focus on their financials and overall strategy as a business. Each week we delve into a case study about a specific company and have discussions about what the company has done in the past and where they may go in the future!

This is Ivy Hopper from Lexington, Tennessee! She received her undergraduate degree from Belmont University in Media Production with an emphasis in Audio/Video Production and a minor in Photography. Her main interest in MV is finding the connect between content creation and business. She is most excited about the opportunity to network and pitch an idea that she developed from start to finish!
Today we took a tour of the BUildLab, a center for innovation for BU students! At the BUild lab students have the opportunity to attend events, find a mentor, and even pitch their ideas to peers and faculty.

One of our very own students, got to showcase her short-film “earworm”, and it was INCREDIBLE!
There were other film-makers there with each film providing a story and having its own identity. This program has let us been immersed in a vast world of media and entertainment.
