Thrilled to share that Professors Swathi Kiran and Elizabeth Hoover are recipients of 2024 Awards from The American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA) for their contributions to the professions of speech-language pathology and speech & hearing science. 👏 👏
Kiran was selected to receive the Honors of the Association and Hoover was honored with the Fellowship of the Association.
They will be formally recognized at the 2024 ASHA Convention in Seattle this December.

Howard “Howie” Blatt of Massachusetts passed away last month at the age of 88. The Constant Therapy team remembers Blatt as an advocate and pioneer in the aphasia community, both in the New England area and nationwide.
Blatt is one of many individuals who has inspired the Constant Therapy team in our own vision to create a speech and language rehabilitation software that is as accessible and inclusive as possible.
The aphasia community is a special one. Constant Therapy takes tremendous pride in serving this community while working to advance brain science and neurorehabilitation.
Peyton Nguyen (Sargent '25) helped pave the way for mental health support services at Boston University through the All Ears program with Student Health Services. As a program ambassador, Peyton provides a judgement-free ear for students seeking peer support.

This summer, Sargent students traveled to Tanzania as part of our International Service Learning Program where they got an up-close view of the healthcare system, interacting with healthcare professionals in and around the cities of Arusha and Moshi.
Students were immersed in Tanzanian culture and had the opportunity to experience the beauty of Tanzania, visiting places like Materuni Waterfall and Tarangire National Park. 🇹🇿 👋

Trial Finds Incorporating Music and Rhythm into Gait Training After Stroke Can Bring Benefits Findings from a clinical trial co-led by Spaulding Rehabilitation showed that patients who rehabilitated with a system called InTandem were three times more likely to respond to treatment and had improvements in walking speed compared with rehabilitation without the system. What happens when professors “queer their classrooms”? Three Sargent Health Sciences faculty who identify in the LGBTQ+ community -- "Shelly" DeBiasse, PhD, RDN, Sophie Godley, and Jesse Moreira-Bouchard, MS, PhD -- made an intentional effort to be open about their identities and have inclusive dialogue in the classroom relating to queerness—then studied the impact on their students.
The results of their research showed the majority of students had an overwhelmingly positive experience to what the professors called, “queering the classroom.”
