Happy Fourth of July! ❤️ 🤍 💙 Enjoy friends, family, food, and fireworks today. Boston will be buzzing with activity today and this weekend from the Fourth of July Parade in City Hall Plaza to the Boston Pops Fireworks Spectacular at the Hatch Memorial Shell.
For those who want a short history lesson, today is July 4th, the 248th anniversary of the adoption of the Declaration of Independence, also known as the birth of the United States of America. The Declaration of Independence was drafted by Thomas Jefferson and adopted by Congress in 1776, about 7 years before the official end of the Revolutionary War.
In 1870, the U.S. Congress made July 4th a national holiday. Americans have continued to celebrate the 4th of July with cookouts, parades, fireworks, displaying the American flag, Revolutionary War reenactments, and more.
