This is the official page for Boston University's Science & Engineering Library, located at 38 Cummington Mall on BU's Charles River Campus.
We primarily serve disciplines in the hard sciences, technology, engineering, and health science. On this page you can find library announcements, campus events related to the sciences, science news, and fun science stuff. To keep it fair to everyone we will not promote your book, company, etc. but if you think there's something we should know about, send us an email.
Since the addition of our new overhead scanner one of our flatbed scanners has been moved downstairs, so there’s now scanning stations on both floors of SEL!
The Science and Engineering Library will be CLOSED tomorrow, January 20th, due to inclement weather. We apologize for any inconvenience this causes and we hope you all stay safe and warm! ⛄️❄️🌨
SEL has a new scanner! This KIC overhead scanner can be found in the scan room, which is past the women’s restroom on the main floor. The scanner’s touchscreen shows step by step instructions, but if you have any trouble or questions feel free to ask for help at the circulation desk.
It’s that time of the year again when the library is filled with students studying for finals! But there’s good news for anyone who wants to spend more time at SEL, tonight’s our first night of extended hours! We will be open until midnight tonight, and open from 8am until midnight the rest of the weekend.
Have you noticed library staff randomly walking around with clipboards while you’re studying and wondered why? It’s because SEL is doing patron counts. By counting the number of people in the library each hour, we’re able to find out which days and times are most popular. The counts will continue through January, allowing us to get a full range of data covering normal days, to finals, to intersession. Knowing these numbers helps inform the decision making behind things like extended hours for finals and open hours during intersession.
Drop off non-perishable food items for the libraries’ Thanksgiving Food Drive at SEL!
SEL’s drop off spot is located next to the Information Desk, near the library’s entrance. Donations will be accepted through November 21st and will go to the Brookline Food Pantry.
SEL THANKSGIVING WEEK HOURS:

Sat & Sun (Nov 24 & 25): Regular hours resume
Sometimes the library receives donations that it can’t keep. Stop by SEL to see if we have any free books you’d like to take home!
The Science and Engineering Library is ready to welcome new students and welcome back returning students!
