There it is! The magical 🌈

A whole food plant-based diet is the only “diet” that has been proven to STOP and REVERSE heart disease ♥️ (the #1 killer in the US and something we treat as an unavoidable genetic predisposition)

This amazing 🌈 of fruits and veggies has anti-cancer properties as well as powerful anti-oxidants! 👊 (different anti-oxidants produce different colors 😯) It’s also loaded with fiber to smooth out our gut lining (where a predictably large percentage of our immune system resides ) protect our circulatory system from the harmful bacteria that are caused by eating animal products and processed foods will extremely large quantities of sugar, and and maintain the good bacteria for a healthy microbiome

Where’s the protein? It’s in there too! All protein comes from plants!🌱 Our bodies even recycle about 90 grams of protein a day and the average vegan consumed more than 70g a day (which is 70% more than the recommended daily intake) And I couldn’t even begin to mention the micro-nutrients in this fabulous photo!

One of the many complaints of going vegan is that the food is more expensive. A lot of the time this is associated with the idea that vegan food means buying the high priced local organic fruits and vegetables (which are awesome! 😎 🌱✌️ but not a requirement by any means)

Aside from the easy rebuttal that the cheapest foods in the grocery store are vegan (rice, grains, beans and other legumes) there still remains serious policy decisions that ensure a consumer market for some of the most detrimental products for the health of our bodies and of this planet, and the beings who are being fed that subsidized grain to put on weight as cheaply and quickly as possible.

It’s not a coincidence that the US has soaring rates of obesity also ranking #1 in diabetes, heart disease and many other diet related illnesses likely to be caused by consuming animal products.

Overnight oats with lupin Flakes 🌱🙏🏼 ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Quite often my first meal of the day involves lupin in one of the many breaky bowls I make. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
A 40g serve of lupin flakes offer 16g of Protein, 15g of Dietary fibre and 1.6g of carbohydrates. In addition they are loaded with iron, magnesium, potassium, antioxidants & are GLUTEN FREE. In fact per serve Lupin has 2-3 x the amount of iron as kale , 2-3 x the amount of potassium as a banana, 2-3x the amount of antioxidants as berries, 2-3x the amount of dietary fibre as oats & 2-3 x the amount of protein as quinoa. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Certain brands also offer Lupin in powder form which can be used as a protein powder or even as a flour substitute.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
An interesting ingredient that is worthwhile adding to your balanced plant based diet. Try this bowl:
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
40g lupin Flakes
50g oats
1 tbsp h**p seeds
1 tbsp chia seeds
1 tbsp cacao nibs
1 small handful of your favourite berries (I rotate them daily)
Total: 517 kcal, 31.5g protein. Wanting a smaller serve / just dial down portions per ingredient. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Optional add ons to increase the calories further.
1/2 tbsp of Almond Butter & 2 Tbsp of Coconut Yogurt
This will add on a further 100 kcal. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Soak the oats, lupin, h**p & chia seeds overnight (water or plant milk) & then add the rest in the morning. Fresh or frozen fruit is fine, frozen are a lot cheaper & last much longer so if on a budget they are 100% fine. Also tastier in smoothies 😋

Look at that beautiful planet!

Propelling us into the depths of space.

Void of any specific destination or direction, but completely sufficient in its entirety.

Filled with beautiful landscapes: majestic mountains, wondrous deserts, tranquil beaches and sentimental pastures.

On this planet; everyone you have ever known, loved, admired, or befriended.

On this planet; every beautiful tree and grass blade, every slimy insect and cuddly animal.

Yet, if we look a little closer, we begin to see how one animal has evolved to exert its power and control over the environment and animals around them. We would find countless sentient beings on this planet being denied their most basic right; freedom.

If we could see what happens while this beautiful planet makes one revolution around its sun, we would find 70 billion land animals slaughtered, to serve as food for the humans living here.

If we could see through the slaughterhouse walls, we would find 98% of those animals came from factory farms - a tool created for the industrialization of products, but no place for any creature capable of feeling pain and suffering.

Not to mention the trillions of fish and sea creatures dragged up from the bottoms of our vibrantly blue oceans to drown in the air we breathe, leaving these immense seas of blue not so vibrant or lively anymore, but rather a trash can for our collective waste.

Despite our relative size, each of us has a unique opportunity to speak up 3 times a day for those animals and this planet: To challenge our beliefs about nutrition, to eat healthier and more sustainably.

That’s what we at Vegan Bacon are here to do.
