Community is fundamental to Jumpstart, and is exemplified by the work of our Site Managers. Lynn Thompson, Worcester State University Site Manager, held a variety of community-building activities amongst Corps Members this year. 🤗 This included making literacy kits to give to children, creating cards to be distributed to the elderly in Worcester through collaboration with Meals on Wheels and watching the movie Coco and then having Members discuss their cultures. Thank you Lynn, and all our wonderful Site Managers, for your efforts to foster and maintain community amongst our teams!

Check out highlights from last year's District of the Year Award Winner: Griffin-Spalding County Schools in Griffin, GA! 🙌 In collaboration with their English for Speakers of Other Languages department, Griffin-Spalding had over 2,300 children across 17 schools participate in celebrating Read for the Record. Griffin-Spalding students read "With Lots of Love" and made crafts like the piñatas from the book.

We love seeing how school districts unite to uplift the importance of early literacy and Read for the Record! Last year's Best Community Celebration award winner, Icahn Charter School 4, in Bronx, NY hosted a Family Night where families read the book together and then discussed the importance of heritage and culture. The celebration also included a community meal of traditional Mexican foods, a phenomenal dance performance, and rotating stations of fun and engaging Jumpstart activities. 💃 Every family went home with a copy of the book too! 📖
