Our Golf Story
A LITTLE SOMETHING ABOUT YOUR GOLF COURSE.
Here is a little history lesson about our club. When Donald Ross opened the course in 1924, its name was Palma Sola Country Club. In 1927, after the real estate bust, Palma Sola CC was merged with the city’s municipal golf course, which was located near where Lecom Baseball Park is now, and they then changed the name to Bradenton CC, so people would know it was a city owned course. Now for the cool part. The name Palma Sola came from sailors early in the area’s history. It translates to solitary palm. On Holmes Beach there was a single palm that stood out. The sailors would look for that palm to indicate that the inlet they were seeking was just ahead. They would come into the bay for safe refuge, and the bay they anchored in became known as Palma Sola Bay.
