Calvary Chapel is a non-denominational fellowship that focuses on the building of the body of believers to strengthen their relationshp with Jesus Christ. We Believe that teaching the Word of God to the people of God equips them to spread the Love of Jesus Christ. Jesus said in John 13:35 "By this all will know that you are my disciples, if you have love one for another."

Dear lakayTimoun family,

All the blessings of the season to you!

If you’re continuing to follow the news of what’s happening in Haiti, you know that the situation—especially in Port-au-Prince—has gone from bad to worse to unimaginable. In some areas, there are sounds of gunshots all day and all night. Those who go into the city have to pay gang members to get in and get out, and the rate is whatever the gangs feel like charging.

Suzelle, our founder, hears people talk the misery of it all. Food is scarce. Tensions are high. The future is uncertain.

And yet …

“God always provides. Always.” Suzelle says this while smiling. She runs through a list of miracles happening at lakayTimoun beyond mere coincidence. There was the day, for example, when she recognized that there was no money in the bank to buy the month’s food. A Haitian couple that now lives in Canada were in town for a visit, and came to see Suzelle. They just happened to have a cousin with a grocery store—and made a generous offer to cover the costs.

There was the time one of the school’s parents stopped Suzelle on her way home. She had 25 pounds of corn that could be used to make the children’s breakfasts—just as Suzelle was contemplating how she could no longer afford bread. And the funds continue to come in at just the right time to cover the payroll for our staff of 25, providing consistent, stable wages to our community. Classes have continued.
“I’ve been seeing the hand of God on this ministry for so long, I just feel at peace,” she says. “He will take care of us. He will take care of the kids.”

From the outside, it’s hard to comprehend. lakayTimoun currently provides a solid education to almost 200 students through sixth grade. In addition, the ministry serves up to 450 meals a day. One recent day, Suzelle says, there were 75 additional kids on hand, hoping for food. One sweet girl, just three years old, arrived on a Monday morning, and hadn’t eaten over the weekend. We wish we could say her story was unique.

“But the Lord is here,” Suzelle says. “He shows me and shows other people that He’s been at work.”

This time of year, you’re likely to receive letters from a variety of worthwhile organizations, each one in desperate need of your support. Suzelle asked us to pass along a different message: one of gratitude.

God continues to show up. So do you. We are sincerely thankful for each time you’ve followed a nudge and given financially, every time you’ve felt a pull and said a prayer. The Lord does His work through hands—and hearts—like yours.

Of course, there will always be needs at lakayTimoun. One of the biggest challenges, Suzelle says, is that the gang situation in Port-au-Prince means items must be received elsewhere; fees for shipping and customs are a significant—and unbudgeted—debt. There’s also a need for a room with a bathroom where visiting missionaries can stay. The next team arrives in early February.

Suzelle, however, remains calm. She trusts that God will provide, just as He always has.

“It’s not easy,” she says. “God didn’t promise it would be. But He did promise to be with me, and He has never let go.” She specifically requests prayer for confusion among the gangs, that they would lose focus and their ability to control.

In the meantime, thank you for all you do to support lakayTimoun. We hope and pray that God would be fully present in your lives and that you continue to see Him work. And if and when you feel that nudge to give or to pray, we hope you’ll be willing. He has a way of showing His hand and heart at just the right time—and you just might be the vehicle for another miracle.

Are Galatians 1:11–24 [11] But I make known to you, brethren, that the gospel which was preached by me is not according to man. [12] For I neither received it from man, nor was I taught it, but it came through the revelation of Jesus Christ. [13] For you have heard of my former conduct in Judaism, how I persecuted the church of God beyond measure and tried to destroy it. [14] And I advanced in Judaism beyond many of my contemporaries in my own nation, being more exceedingly zealous for the traditions of my fathers. [15] But when it pleased God, who separated me from my mother's womb and called me through His grace, [16] to reveal His Son in me, that I might preach Him among the Gentiles, I did not immediately confer with flesh and blood, [17] nor did I go up to Jerusalem to those who were apostles before me; but I went to Arabia, and returned again to Damascus. [18] Then after three years I went up to Jerusalem to see Peter, and remained with him fifteen days. [19] But I saw none of the other apostles except James, the Lord's brother. [20] (Now concerning the things which I write to you, indeed, before God, I do not lie.) [21] Afterward I went into the regions of Syria and Cilicia. [22] And I was unknown by face to the churches of Judea which were in Christ. [23] But they were hearing only, "He who formerly persecuted us now preaches the faith which he once tried to destroy." [24] And they glorified God in me. Allowing God To Change You? Galatians 1:11-24

Are You Being A Godly Father? - Luke 8:40-56

06/18/2023

Luke 8:40–56 [40] So it was, when Jesus returned, that the multitude welcomed Him, for they were all waiting for Him. [41] And behold, there came a man named Jairus, and he was a ruler of the synagogue. And he fell down at Jesus’ feet and begged Him to come to his house, [42] for he had an only daughter about twelve years of age, and she was dying. But as He went, the multitudes thronged Him. [43] Now a woman, having a flow of blood for twelve years, who had spent all her livelihood on physicians and could not be healed by any, [44] came from behind and touched the border of His garment. And immediately her flow of blood stopped. [45] And Jesus said, “Who touched Me?” When all denied it, Peter and those with him said, “Master, the multitudes throng and press You, and You say, ‘Who touched Me?’ ” [46] But Jesus said, “Somebody touched Me, for I perceived power going out from Me.” [47] Now when the woman saw that she was not hidden, she came trembling; and falling down before Him, she declared to Him in the presence of all the people the reason she had touched Him and how she was healed immediately. [48] And He said to her, “Daughter, be of good cheer; your faith has made you well. Go in peace.” [49] While He was still speaking, someone came from the ruler of the synagogue’s house, saying to him, “Your daughter is dead. Do not trouble the Teacher.” [50] But when Jesus heard it, He answered him, saying, “Do not be afraid; only believe, and she will be made well.” [51] When He came into the house, He permitted no one to go in except Peter, James, and John, and the father and mother of the girl. [52] Now all wept and mourned for her; but He said, “Do not weep; she is not dead, but sleeping.” [53] And they ridiculed Him, knowing that she was dead. [54] But He put them all outside, took her by the hand and called, saying, “Little girl, arise.” [55] Then her spirit returned, and she arose immediately. And He commanded that she be given something to eat. [56] And her parents were astonished, but He charged them to tell no one what had happened.

Is Your Life Bringing God All The Glory? - 2 Corinthians 11:16-33

05/21/2023

2 Corinthians 11:1–15 [1] Oh, that you would bear with me in a little folly—and indeed you do bear with me. [2] For I am jealous for you with godly jealousy. For I have betrothed you to one husband, that I may present you as a chaste virgin to Christ. [3] But I fear, lest somehow, as the serpent deceived Eve by his craftiness, so your minds may be corrupted from the simplicity that is in Christ. [4] For if he who comes preaches another Jesus whom we have not preached, or if you receive a different spirit which you have not received, or a different gospel which you have not accepted—you may well put up with it! [5] For I consider that I am not at all inferior to the most eminent apostles. [6] Even though I am untrained in speech, yet I am not in knowledge. But we have been thoroughly manifested among you in all things. [7] Did I commit sin in humbling myself that you might be exalted, because I preached the gospel of God to you free of charge? [8] I robbed other churches, taking wages from them to minister to you. [9] And when I was present with you, and in need, I was a burden to no one, for what I lacked the brethren who came from Macedonia supplied. And in everything I kept myself from being burdensome to you, and so I will keep myself. [10] As the truth of Christ is in me, no one shall stop me from this boasting in the regions of Achaia. [11] Why? Because I do not love you? God knows! [12] But what I do, I will also continue to do, that I may cut off the opportunity from those who desire an opportunity to be regarded just as we are in the things of which they boast. [13] For such are false apostles, deceitful workers, transforming themselves into apostles of Christ. [14] And no wonder! For Satan himself transforms himself into an angel of light. [15] Therefore it is no great thing if his ministers also transform themselves into ministers of righteousness, whose end will be according to their works.

03/19/2023

2 Corinthians 7:2–16 [2] Open your hearts to us. We have wronged no one, we have corrupted no one, we have cheated no one. [3] I do not say this to condemn; for I have said before that you are in our hearts, to die together and to live together. [4] Great is my boldness of speech toward you, great is my boasting on your behalf. I am filled with comfort. I am exceedingly joyful in all our tribulation. [5] For indeed, when we came to Macedonia, our bodies had no rest, but we were troubled on every side. Outside were conflicts, inside were fears. [6] Nevertheless God, who comforts the downcast, comforted us by the coming of Titus, [7] and not only by his coming, but also by the consolation with which he was comforted in you, when he told us of your earnest desire, your mourning, your zeal for me, so that I rejoiced even more. [8] For even if I made you sorry with my letter, I do not regret it; though I did regret it. For I perceive that the same epistle made you sorry, though only for a while. [9] Now I rejoice, not that you were made sorry, but that your sorrow led to repentance. For you were made sorry in a godly manner, that you might suffer loss from us in nothing. [10] For godly sorrow produces repentance leading to salvation, not to be regretted; but the sorrow of the world produces death. [11] For observe this very thing, that you sorrowed in a godly manner: What diligence it produced in you, what clearing of yourselves, what indignation, what fear, what vehement desire, what zeal, what vindication! In all things you proved yourselves to be clear in this matter. [12] Therefore, although I wrote to you, I did not do it for the sake of him who had done the wrong, nor for the sake of him who suffered wrong, but that our care for you in the sight of God might appear to you. [13] Therefore we have been comforted in your comfort. And we rejoiced exceedingly more for the joy of Titus, because his spirit has been refreshed by you all. [14] For if in anything I have boasted to him about you, I am not ashamed. But as we spoke all things to you in truth, even so our boasting to Titus was found true. [15] And his affections are greater for you as he remembers the obedience of you all, how with fear and trembling you received him. [16] Therefore I rejoice that I have confidence in you in everything.
