Have you heard of the Iliopsoas muscles...otherwise known as the hip flexors?They attach to your hip bone (femur) and then part of the muscle attaches to the pelvic bone (ilium) and the other part goes through your lower abdomen and attaches to your lower spine. Sitting too long over time causes the hip flexors to become chronically shortened. You might notice if after you've been sitting for too long that getting up causes your low back to hurt and feel stiff. This is because the shortened muscle is pulling on the spine as you get up. It's a big problem for a large percentage of people; especially if you sit a lot during the day. So here is a great stretch to do to get the iliopsoas to lengthen, stretch and relax. But just a heads up: it takes a lot of stretching to really affect a muscles length and flexibility. So if you start doing this, try and make a commitment to it so you can really affect the muscle long term and counteract the dangers of sitting.
