No one is born feeling unworthy, inadequate, or full of shame - these feelings are ways we as children misinterpreted the flaws in our environment as something wrong inside of us.

Anything that feels not ok, impermissable, horrible, or damaged in you isn't in fact what is True, but it is attempting to alert you to a deep truth about how life really felt, and a deep need that is waiting to be met (and likely has been waiting for a long time).

It can take a lot of courage to actually see the truth of how not ok things might have been in your past, how neglected or hurt or uncared for you may have felt at times. But there's so much freedom on the other side of reconciling this misunderstanding, and letting these parts of ourselves receive all the kindness and unconditional love they still so deeply yearn for.

There is a paradigm shift in how we think and address chronic pain. It’s now called primary pain.
Primary pain looks at consistent, persistent pain as a neuro-circuit not a bodily structural issue. It’s about how our nervous system is receiving, sending and organizing information from our external world, emotions and mind. Fixing only a structural issue without considering how the nervous system is processing information may leave you with only continued pain. Make sure your healthcare providers, bodyworkers, coaches and trainers are knowledgeable about primary pain so you can get the help you need.

We are *beyond* excited to welcome Heidi Schaul-Yoder to our team as a Somatic Psychotherapist!⁣

Heidi has a firm belief in each of our innate wiring for healing and growth. She is no stranger to struggle, uncertainty and loss, and it was her own quest for healing that led her to her passion and life’s work. Her primary intention is to create a space to gently release restrictions and traumas, and to access inspiration, imagination, and insight in their many forms. ⁣

A Certified Gestalt Therapist and New York State Licensed Psychoanalyst, Heidi studied somatic psychotherapy and contemporary psychoanalysis through the Gestalt Center for Psychotherapy & Training in NYC. She has been supporting people therapeutically for the past nine years, addressing issues related to self love, anxiety, trauma, life transitions, relationships, and spirituality. ⁣

She is also a yoga teacher, and has studied and integrated a wide variety of holistic healing methods including several forms of yoga, somatic meditation, self-massage, and therapeutic movement. At an earlier time in her life, she obtained her Masters of Music degree from The Juilliard School and spent many years performing and teaching as a professional violinist.⁣

In her work, Heidi draws inspiration from mindfulness and Eastern philosophy, Gestalt psychology, attachment theory, somatic practices, the natural world, and art of all kinds. She is constantly learning, and continues to pursue advanced training in the nervous system, trauma, and the mind-body connection. Heidi sees therapy as a creative, collaborative process and a sacred space - she holds great compassion for this human experience, and a deep reverence for the mysterious blossoming of the human spirit. ⁣

𝗘𝘃𝗲𝗿 𝗳𝗲𝗲𝗹 𝗹𝗶𝗸𝗲 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝘀𝗸𝗶𝗻 𝗶𝘀 “𝘁𝗶𝗴𝗵𝘁”? 𝗖𝘂𝗽𝗽𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗺𝗶𝗴𝗵𝘁 𝗯𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝘄𝗮𝘆 𝘁𝗼 𝗹𝗼𝗼𝘀𝗲𝗻 𝗶𝘁 𝘂𝗽 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗰𝗿𝗲𝗮𝘁𝗲 𝘀𝗼𝗺𝗲 𝘀𝗽𝗮𝗰𝗲.

Cupping consists of placing special cups on your skin for a few minutes to create suction. This suction will loosen everything that can be “stuck” at the skin and superficial muscle layers. Cupping can be used to help with pain, inflammation, and blood flow.

A different approach to cupping is “Sliding Cupping”. Sliding Cupping creates a continuous feeling of draining without leaving any marks on the body. This alternative method can be good for anyone feeling tension stuck in their muscles or who generally feel tight and bound up.

What your tongue says about the inner state of your body!

Looking at your tongue can help get a general idea of the state of your body. When looking at your tongue you want to pay attention to: color, thickness, texture, coating, etc.

Here are a few examples of what your tongue can be telling you:
✦ red tongue = inflammation
✦ pale tongue = blood deficiency
✦ white coating = internal stagnation
✦ yellow coating = lots of inflammation and stagnation
✦ swollen tongue and/or tooth marks = water is stagnating in the system
✦ dry tongue = fluid deficiency

Myofascial release (MFR) is a gentle yet deep form of bodywork. It requires listening to the patient’s body, engaging with the fascia, and allowing it to unwind. Fascia is a thin casing of connective tissue that surrounds and holds every organ, blood vessel, bone, nerve fiber and muscle in place. When stressed, the web can tighten, distort, or shrink. By helping the fascia unwind, it creates more space and thus helps things circulate better.

MFR can be used for pain, blockages, and realigning various parts of the body.

Poor sitting posture and incorrectly placed monitors are the catalyst for pain and tension in the neck and back, what we often refer to as “Tech Neck”.

Simple controlled movement and deep philosophy. As our body moves we move our energy, as we move our energy we learn flow. Movement heals because it moves forward in opposition to stagnation. In our bodies we stay limber, in our minds challenged and in our souls uplifted. Movement establishes a constant renewal in who we are as we move towards a higher version of ourselves. 𝗧𝗿𝘆 𝘁𝗵𝗶𝘀 𝗣𝗶𝗹𝗮𝘁𝗲𝘀 𝗲𝘅𝗲𝗿𝗰𝗶𝘀𝗲 𝘁𝗼 𝘀𝘁𝗿𝗲𝗻𝗴𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗻 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗰𝗼𝗿𝗲 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗱𝗲𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗽𝗿𝗲𝘀𝘀 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝘀𝗽𝗶𝗻𝗲!

Circling the trunk of the body to open the hips, and create space in the lower spine. Pilates strengthens the core and decompresses the spine. It keeps joints supple and creates space in the body overall. The physical result, we feel less tight, more relaxed. Other benefits, we are less overwhelmed and feel stronger. Pilates strikes the balance between strength and flexibility. The focus on length is one reason we feel taller after a session. Consistent practice creates better posture, prevents pain and increases strength.

When we quiet the mind and body, we relax our nervous system. In that break from activity, when we sit and just observe, there’s opportunity. We create space in the mind, think of it as vacuuming on the inside. As the body learns to settle into stillness, the mind follows suit.
Meditation is known to increase focus, lower stress and improve sleep. The deepest wisdom is not from any study though ~ as one of my teachers says “just start meditating consistently and then look at your life.”

Today has been one of the most fulfilling days of my career to date. I got to witness and help facilitate deep healing for mind-body-spirit. Tears were shed and posture revitalized as a lifetime accumulation of trauma relaxed its grip on the body. Smiles lit up faces of people who had “tried everything” before Rolfing, their 15 years of chronic pain disappearing in 90 min. The sessions concluded with laughter and long hugs. ⁣

I am deeply touched and in awe of the human capacity to heal and grow. I am immensely honored to be a facilitator for that kind of change. I feel gratitude for alllll my teachers of all the different modalities over the years, and how their knowledge comes together in my work to form a powerful offering for my clients.⁣

May this continue 🙏 ⁣

Essential to our good health - rest, relaxation and taking a break from routine. Even one day taking the pressure off can result in calmer mental / emotional states, has been shown to lower blood pressure, improve sleep and boost our sense of positivity.

Taking time away reboots our system so we return to our daily work with a better attitude and increased positivity. Schedule breaks, vacation, meditation and movement to feel better inside and out.
