James the brother of Jesus called us to a pure religion, not to abandon it. I think the attack on "religion" helped us emphasize that God wants to have communion with us, but I think it's played its part. The truth is, we don't practice true religion. We sit in church and don't do anything.

James 1:27 KJV
Pure religion and undefiled before God and the Father is this, To visit the fatherless and widows in their affliction, and to keep himself unspotted.

God is patient

The #1 Reason I tell people about Jesus is that I don't want them to go to Hell. And that is Love. Just like you wouldn't want your child to run into the middle of a busy highway because you don't want them to get hit by a car. It is love to instruct them about the dangers of a busy road. Just like I instruct my children to wear a seat belt so they don't fly out the front windshield and break their neck. Just like we warn them that smoking kills.

So, I think it is a scheme of the Devil to get us to not study, teach or believe in this very real place (or multiple places depending on how you understand it), or at least to lessen its severity. The Devil doesn't want your kids or neighbors and strangers to know about the dangers of the afterlife.

A Firefighter has no sense of urgency if there is no fire.

If we can be deceived into thinking that there is no consequence after God's judgment, or that somehow the "great and terrible" day of the Lord somehow means something other than "terrible", then we will have no urgency to tell people the Good News about Jesus.

The Seat belt was invented for one purpose. To save people from dying a horrible death. That is why the Seat belt is good. We all know that Seat belts weren't meant for our comfort or to make our ride easier. Same with Parachutes. They were engineered for one purpose, to save your life when the airplane fails. Parachutes are not meant to make your airplane ride more comfortable. The parachute is only as good as its ability to save you from plummeting to your death

Jesus was sent for one reason. He was sent to save the world. Form what? God's wrath. He was sent to pay the penalty for our sin, an eternal death, condemnation and eternal punishment.

Matthew 25:41 & 46 (NLT)
41 “Then the King will turn to those on the left and say, ‘Away with you, you cursed ones, into the eternal fire (αἰώνιος πῦρ) prepared for the devil and his demons.
46 “And they will go away into eternal punishment (αἰώνιος κόλασις), but the righteous will go into eternal life.”

Jesus talked about this place. He didn't shrink back from revealing it to us. He wanted us to be aware of it.

αἰώνιος πῦρ = aiōnios pyr (eternal fire)

πῦρ
fire, flames:– fire (57), burning (5), blazing (2), fiery (2), flames (2), all ablaze (1 [+2794]), lamps (1 [+3286]), spark (1)

αἰώνιος κόλασις = aiōnios kolasis (eternal punishment)
punishment:– punishment (2)

I picked this example in scripture because it doesn't use any trigger words like Sheol, Hades, Grave, Pit, or Gehenna. It simply describes what this place will be like.
1. Eternal Fire
2. Eternal Punishment
3. A place for demons, and the wicked who are being judged.

This description in Matthew 25 is talking about a place that was prepared for eternal beings like the devil and his demons, but that the unrighteous will be sent to this place as well. This is no earthly place.

Don't make the mistake of thinking the good news is actually good without the bad news. Mercy means nothing without judgment. Forgiveness has no beauty apart from Condemnation. Being washed "white as snow" is only wonderful when you realize how stained you are by sin. Stop thinking you can share the gospel of God's Kingdom, Forgiveness, and Eternal Life without talking about Sin, God's Wrath, and Eternal Punishment.

Reasons we don't share the Gospel:
1. Fear of man.
2. Rebellion against God's word.
3. Laziness. We think God will do it without us.
4. Don't know what to say.
5. No sense of urgency because we don't believe in Hell or don't realize its gravity.

How do we fix this?
1. Fear God and Love People.
2. Take God's word Seriously.
3. Need a sense of urgency.
4. We live in the information age. Just look it up, or ask me.
5. Just spend +5 hours studying all the scripture that talks about Hell and God's final judgment.

There is no doubt that some mystery covers the concepts of Hell and how things actually work right after we die before the final judgment and after the final judgment, but with just a little study you should be reasonable enough to admit there is also no doubt that something terrible is coming and only Jesus Christ can save you.

His last command to us.
