It promotes visibility and awareness, encouraging society to embrace and appreciate diversity in abilities. The month also serves as a platform to advocate for equal rights, accessibility, and inclusivity for all disabled individuals.

Pride Month, celebrated ever June, commemorates the LGBTQ+ community's ongoing fight for equality and recognition, honoring the anniversary of the Stonewall Riots of 1969. It highlights the urgent need to end discrimination and promote awareness about LGBTQIA+ rights.

Ending racism requires collective action, empathy and a commitment to dismantling systemic injustices. Embracing diversity and fostering inclusivity paves the path towards a more equitable and peaceful society.
Today we remember the victims of the Tops mass shooting.
OPWDD is partnering with NYS State Parks, DEC, and the Department of Veterans Services this year on Get Outdoors & Get Together Day, which is happening on Saturday, June 8.
Fun and accessible outdoor events will be held at select parks and DEC sites across the state! We are sharing a general flyer with you about the event to use to spread the word and encourage people with and without developmental disabilities to attend and join in on the fun. We encourage everyone to bring a picnic lunch with them as concession is not available at every location.
At DEC sites, attendees can discover new skills and enjoy a range of introductory-level outdoor recreation activities such as fishing, nature walks and hikes, birding, archery, camping, paddling, and more. Activities will vary at State Parks and range from lawn games to accessible hikes to arts and crafts. Most events will run from 10 am until 2 pm. Check out the fliers below for more information!
Mental Health Awareness Month serves as a crucial reminder to prioritize mental-well being and break the stigmas around mental health issues. It's a time to promote understanding, support and access to resources for individuals and communities facing mental health challenges.
