Fr. Greg provides a weekly spiritual reflection called, “A Good Word.”
A Good Word by Fr. Greg Jakubowicz, OFM 2.5.2023 Hello Friends, What do you see as your role in this world? I’m not talking about a career or profession, but rather how do you see yourself as contributing to our world. In this Sunday’s Gospel from Matthew, Jesus tells his followers that they are the salt of the earth and the light of the world...
A Good Word: Did you know that each Sunday we send a newsletter? In addition to informing them of events and programs, Fr. Greg provides a weekly spiritual reflection called, “A Good Word.” That spiritual reflection is also posted each Monday on our campus ministry webpage – www.UBStJoes.org. If you are interested in reading this week’s “A Good Word” as well as past spiritual reflections from Fr. Greg, check it out.

A Good Word by Fr. Greg Jakubowicz, OFM 10.9.2022 Hello Friends, Our Gospel from Luke this Sunday shares the story of the 10 lepers who were healed by Jesus – with only one of the 10 healed coming back to thank God for the miracle. I’m always amazed that the 10 lepers who were healed from a hideous disease that made them not just outcasts from ...
Medical Ethics Conversation:
Don’t forget - to those UB Medical students and area physicians who already responded - our Medical Ethics Conversation is THIS Thursday, October 6 at 5:30 pm in the Parish Community Room. If you forgot to respond, please contact Fr. Greg.
Coordinator for the Student Coat Drive:
We are looking for someone with excellent organizational skills and a friendly manner to coordinate our annual winter coat collection for our international students. The collection will be taking place after the Masses on the weekend of October 29-30. The coats will need to be organized by gender and size. The distribution of the coats takes place after the Student Mass on the following two weekends. If you would be willing help us in this role, please contact Fr. Greg.
UB – St. Joe’s Catholic Campus Ministry reaches out each fall to the first year Dental and Medical students at their first Gross Anatomy Exam (arguably the most stressful exam of the first year) by giving each student a Stress Relief Care Package.
Each UB blue bag handed out by a campus minister contains a heart-shaped stress ball with our logo, a roll of Smarties candy, and a card from UB – St. Joe’s encouraging the student for their exam. It is another way we offer pastoral care to the University community.
We hope to see you at “Sip, Savor and Celebrate”, our Campus Ministry fundraiser on Friday, September 30th, at the UB Newman Center.
It’s our first fundraiser since COVID and we hope to raise much needed funds for Campus Ministry, especially since the diocese no long provides financial support.
You can expect tasting stations with bite-sized Italian food, paired with Italian wines, silent auction including a dinner with Fr. Jack and Fr. Pat at the rectory, a Sundae Social with Fr. Greg and other items. We'll also be having theme basket raffles.
Tickets can be purchased at www.stjosephbuffalo.org or by calling Kristen Brill or Rebekah Stiller at the Parish Office, at 833-0298. Hope to see you there!
Don't forget to join us for the Blessing of the Brains during the 7:00 PM Mass tonight. We will have a special meal after to help you along the way towards finals week.
“Joining in prayer means transmitting life to one another, it means sharing one’s own vital force with our neighbor, and thus become stronger with that vital force that we receive from those with whom we join in prayer,” - Archbishop Sviatoslav Shevchuk, head of the Greek Catholic Church in Ukraine
Poet: Ogden Nash
Winter is the king of showmen,
Turning tree stumps into snow men,
And houses into birthday cakes,
And spreading sugar over lakes.
Smooth and clean and frosty white,
The world looks good enough to bite.
That’s the season to be young
Catching snowflakes on your tongue.
Snow is snowy when it’s snowing
I’m sorry it’s slushy when it’s going.
