The board and staff of the Peace & Justice Center are horrified by the shooting that took place in Burlington over the weekend. All of our thoughts are with the students and their families as they recover. Hatred against our Palestinian and Arab neighbors is absolutely unacceptable and it is beyond shameful that this happened in our town. We join with so many others in our community in solidarity with our Palestinian neighbors. The rhetoric coming from our national, state, and local leaders has contributed to an environment where racists feel emboldened, and we condemn the climate of Islamophobia, antisemitism, and anti-Arab racism that has risen around the United States in recent weeks. All of us in Burlington should feel obligated to stand up against this at every possible opportunity. Stand in solidarity with your Palestinian neighbors!
