While green energy solutions like solar panels and wind turbines play a crucial role in combating climate change, a persistent challenge lies in effectively storing the energy they produce during periods of low wind and sunlight. To address this issue, Professor Yet-Ming Chiang, former Tesla Vice President Mateo Jaramillo, and MIT graduate student Marco Ferrara co-founded Form Energy, a startup based in Somerville, MA.

Their startup developed a new category of energy storage systems capable of storing energy for multiple days. Ferrara teamed up with Professor Jessika Trancik to model four representative locations in the United States, concluding that by keeping energy storage costs below approximately $20/kWh, they could enable a wind-solar combination to deliver cost-effective and reliable electricity in regions with high renewable resources. Learn more: https://bit.ly/4f4cW2K.

It’s crucial to find effective strategies for climate change mitigation through data-informed analysis. Explore further in Professor Trancik’s Clean Energy Solutions course (July 9 - Sept. 3). Registration closes July 9th. Apply today!
