Introducing Megan White Mukuria of ZanaAfrica
We are so pleased to announce our first TED-style speaker, Megan White Mukuria, College ’99!
Megan spent the summer before her senior year in Kenya working with street children. In 2001 she relocated to Kenya to continue this work and found sanitary pads were girls’ second biggest monthly expense and a key barrier to education and dignity. Determined to solve this problem and help girls achieve their purpose, Megan launched the National Sanitary Pads Campaign in 2006 and is creating a global movement around Menstrual Health Management through her hybrid social enterprise, ZanaAfrica.
To date ZanaAfrica has served over 12,000 girls and 5,000 women in mind, body, and spirit with products and services. By 2020 they plan to scale to 2M and create a regional, replicable solution. Their work is supported by the Gates Foundation and three governments. A 2011 PopTech Social Innovation Fellow, Megan was featured in Fast Company’s League of Extraordinary Women in 2012. Megan is President of the Harvard Club of Kenya and a College interviewer in Kenya since 2003. www.zanaafrica.org
