Hey everyone! Due to an unexpected medical emergency, our actress playing Patsy had to drop out of the show.

So we're looking for a new Patsy for our hilarious production of "Doublewide, TX Christmas"!

Patsy can be 40+ years old. She is strong, feisty and sarcastic. A very fun role to play. It is a GREAT role, but not too many lines to learn. She is very important to the show.

If you, or someone you know would like to read for the role, please come to the Canton Village Theatre this coming Thursday, October 19, 2023 at 6:30pm. We'll be in the classroom.

Rehearsals are Mondays/Thursdays and we open on November 9, 2023.

Congratulations to our new cast of “A Doublewide, Texas Christmas” by Jones Hope Wooten

Please note that we are still looking for an actress to play Patsy Price. Patsy is describe as “a real snot pot and mean as a snake”. But in the end she learns to change her evil ways (“maybe”).

The adult actress who plays her can be any age, but willing and able to play 50s-60s. This is a primo role for any actress and will be a lot of fun to play.

Please pass on the word to friends and family and if anyone is interested, have them come to our first rehearsal, which is next Thursday, September 14 at 6:30pm to audition. We will be at the Schoolhouse rehearsal space across the street from the Canton Village Theatre.

Better Than Ever Productions presents Doublewide, Texas on Thursday, March 30, Friday, March 31 and Saturday, April 1 at 7:00 p.m. and a Sunday matinee at 3:00 p.m. on April 2 in The Biltmore Studio of The Village Theater. In this hilarious, fast-paced comedy, the inhabitants of one of the smallest trailer parks in Texas—four doublewides and a shed—are thrown for a loop when they realize the nearby town of Tugaloo is determined to annex them. But these friends, enemies, and neighbors realize they’ll have to work together to defeat the encroaching annexation if they—and their way of life—have a snowball’s chance to survive being swallowed up by “the big guys.” The rollicking mayhem of this flat-out funny Jones Hope Wooten comedy escalates as the residents attempt to secede from Texas, discover a traitor in their midst, and turn the tables in a surprising and side-splitting finale. Y’all invited to c’mon down to the Canton Village Theater and join the folks from Better Than Ever Productions for a show that’ll be more fun than a Texas brisket barbeque! That’s right, we is auditionin’ for some talented actors and actresses (just like them Hollywood types) to fill the hi-larious roles in our side-splitting, knee-slapping production of “Doublewide, Texas” by Jones Hope Wooten.

THE STORY: In this hilarious, fast-paced comedy, the inhabitants of one of the smallest trailer parks in Texas—four doublewides and a shed—are thrown for a loop when they realize the nearby town of Tugaloo is determined to annex them. And it’s not as if they don’t already have enough to deal with. Joveeta Crumpler has had it up to here, having been passed over again for a promotion at work. On top of this, she has an ongoing battle to keep her feisty mother, Caprice, out of the local bar and worries that her good-ol’-boy brother, Baby Crumpler, is taking his participation in a womanless beauty pageant way too seriously. Joveeta’s big-hearted best friend, Georgia Dean Rudd, is struggling to keep her diner and finances afloat, but she just can’t curb her impulse to take in every stray cat, possum, and armadillo that wanders by. Then there’s Big Ethel Satterwhite, who’s nobody’s fool. But tough as she is, she’s continually frustrated by her clients at Stairway To Heaven Retirement Village as well as her mule-headed husband, O.C., who shows far more affection for his BarcaLounger than he does for Big Ethel. And all the residents are plagued by Haywood Sloggett, the curmudgeon from across the road, who loathes their “trailer-trash” ways, especially their keeping a life-size illuminated nativity scene up year ’round. AUDITIONS - "Bell, Book and Candle" by John Druten

BTEP Auditions for “Bell, Book and Candle” by John Druten will be on September 7 & 8 at the Canton Village Theatre from 7-9:30pm.

Performances are Thursday, Friday and Saturday, November 10, 11, 12 at 7pm and Sunday, November 13 at 3pm

There are roles for 3 Men and 2 Women.

Bell, Book and Candle character descriptions

· Gillian Holroyd - female, mid-twenties, small, alert, direct, very attractive

· Shepherd Henderson - male, 35+, masculine and attractive

· Miss Holroyd - female, Gillian's aunt, odd-looking woman, vague, fluttery and eccentric

· Nicky Holroyd - male, Gillian's younger brother, engaging, impish and somewhat impertinent

· Sidney Redlitch - male, 50's, writer, shambling, messy

This play was one of the inspirations for the whacky TV sitcom “Bewitched”. So keep that in mind when you audition.

THE STORY: Gillian Holroyd is one of the few modern people who can actually cast spells and perform feats of supernaturalism. She casts a spell over an unattached publisher, Shepherd Henderson, partly to keep him away from a rival and partly because she is attracted to him. He falls head over heels in love with her at once and wants to marry her. But witches, unfortunately, cannot fall in love, and this minute imperfection leads into a number of difficulties. Ultimately, the lady breaks off with her companions in witchery, preferring the normal and human love offered her by the attractive publisher. But before the happy conclusion of the romance, Gillian comes very near to losing him—but doesn’t.
