Did you know that you can avoid plastic bags at the Cary Farmers Market by grabbing a free reusable cloth bag!

The dedicated and talented folks in the Toward Zero Waste Makers group sew bags from scrap and surplus fabrics for the market.

I had a great visit with these awesome TZW volunteers today and spotted some bags in use around the market.

Who's Responsible for This Thing? From Design to Disposal, EPR Says Manufacturers Are - Toward Zero Waste 04/07/2024

Who is responsible for product packaging waste?

Check out this great blog from Toward Zero Waste ...

Who's Responsible for This Thing? From Design to Disposal, EPR Says Manufacturers Are - Toward Zero Waste There is an idea gaining traction around the world: manufacturers should be held responsible for designing products that use less plastic and harmful materials, and for disposing of them when they reach their end of life. Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) laws are the embodiment of this concept...

Happy !!!

NC State Extension (my day job) has a bunch of resources to help you create and use compost. Check it out here:
https://composting.ces.ncsu.edu/home-composting/

There are also tons of gardening tips including this rain garden plant selection: https://extensiongardener.ces.ncsu.edu/extgardener-rain-garden-plant-list/

We’re wrapping up Creek Week in Cary with a few reminders to help keep our waterways clean and healthy!
💧Please pick up after your pets.
💧Use compost instead of fertilizer on your lawn and garden. Soils amended with compost retain more moisture and prevent sediment runoff.
💧Only rain goes down the drain! Never allow anything except rain water to enter into our storm drain system. If you see evidence of illegal dumping contact us at 311 to report.
💧Utilize water-wise landscape practices and tools such as rain barrels and rain gardens.

Hey Apex NC!!!

We welcome to the NC Green Business Directory because ...

"Plant-rich diets hold enormous potential for climate change mitigation if adopted on a global scale. They also tend to be healthier than animal-rich diets. A plant-rich diet can be adopted incrementally with small behavioral changes that together lead to globally significant reductions in greenhouse gas emissions." -

And because the photos on their page look so delicious and decadent!

Rarely seen whale species died on Emerald Isle after swallowing mylar balloon 11/16/2023

This should be a no brainier by now but . . .

Balloon releases as celebrations or remembrances are nothing but dangerous and sometimes deadly trash.

This creature deserved better from us. 😞

Rarely seen whale species died on Emerald Isle after swallowing mylar balloon At the end of October, a Gervais’ Beaked Whale washed up on Emerald Isle. She was about a year old and weighed just over 670 pounds. Over a dozen scientists gathered together to figure out her cause of death.

👗Tired of purchasing and wearing a dress only once for a special occasion then stashing it in the back of your closet?

We just added a local fashion rental business to the directory!

Here's what Trendlend does: At TrenLend, our mission is to transform the way people approach fashion by providing convenient clothing rental services within our local community. We believe that everyone deserves access to a diverse and ever-evolving wardrobe, without the burden of ownership.

But we love that this service helps give life to beautiful dresses beyond a single use! This is one part of the solution to fast fashion which impacts our planet because of the carbon emissions related to clothing production.
