Award Winning Filmmaker Pays Tribute to his High School Drama Teacher | Teacher Stories 06/24/2020

Many of you know this magnificent gentleman who just retired after 23 years of teaching physics and directing theater productions at Chaska and Chanhassen High Schools. The podcast "Teacher Stories" recently interviewed him after a former student/actor, Mike Barnard nominated him for the show.

Ladies and gentlemen....Mr. Jim Lund.

Award Winning Filmmaker Pays Tribute to his High School Drama Teacher | Teacher Stories Mike Barnard's first high school theatre audition was a disaster, but he finds the courage to try again and lands a part in another production. A marvelous "remote" tribute tonight to Mr. Jim Lund on what would have been closing night of his last high school production, A Midsummer Night's Dream. Theater alumni from Chaska High School and Chanhassen High School gathered online to honor his work as a teacher, as a director, and as a man.

"I hadn't realized how much of my life was filled up with these tiny interactions at Chaska High School, at Chanhassen High School....But, there's a moment for you to take a bow and leave the stage. I love you all."

Many thanks to Jane Ricks Herget, to Chanhassen Thespian Troupe 7789, and the alumni of Chanhassen and Chaska Theater for making tonight happen. Not even a bloody virus can keep these young people down! Goodnight!

The Chanhassen Speech Team had a wonderful weekend at the Harvard Speech Tournament. As the biggest speech tournament in the country, with over 350 schools from around the WORLD, it is rare for a team to have more than one or two finalists, if they even earn that. However, this year, Chanhassen Speech had 4 entries in finals and 10 of the 12 entries we brought to the tournament made some sort of elimination round at the tournament. We are proud of the accomplishments because they are a testament to the hard work and determination demonstrated every day by members of the entire Chanhassen Speech Team.

Octafinalists (top 60):
Sam Buisman in Extemp. Speaking
Eli Rockhold in Extemp. Speaking

Quarterfinalists (top 25):
Kush Brahmbhatt in Informative Speaking

AND

Congratulations especially to Eli Rockhold for placing 5th in Original Oratory, to Ava Ewald for placing 3rd in Informative Speaking, and to Hailey Frye for placing 6th in Original Oratory AND winning 1st place in Informative Speaking. Hailey is Chanhassen’s first event champion at the prestigious tournament!

If you want to see these folks, and many more, in action, come to Speaking Up a Storm next week, on Thursday, March 2nd at 7:00 PM in the theater. Tickets are $5 in advance from a speech student or $7 at the door. It promises to be an incredible evening!
