Meet Chase Pier!

Hello, I'm Chase, and I am from Nokomis, Illinois! It is about an hour south of Springfield, Illinois. I am a second year here at Eastern and I am currently majoring in Sociology. I just started working with the Admissions office this semester but over the summer I was able to help them with their Open House. I chose to work with Admissions because I wanted to connect with students directly and share my experience with them. My favorite things about working with Admissions is connecting with perspective students and their families. After college I want to pursue a career in College Student Affairs, and in 10 years, I see myself working at a university somewhere in the U.S. and owning a dog, specifically a Labrador. My favorite event on campus so far has been the carnival we had on welcome weekend!

🚨It's meet Admission Monday🚨

Meet Sarah Daugherty!

Sarah is from Morris, IL, a small town about an hour outside of Chicago. She is a Freshman/First-Year Admission Counselor for students from the Northwest Chicago suburbs, northern IL, WI, and MN. She helps students and their families through the application, financial aid, and enrollment process at EIU. Sarah visits high schools and attends college fairs to talk to students about Eastern, and since she's a regional admission counselor, she actually lives in the Chicago suburbs and works from home! This helps her be more available to meet with students and their families whenever they need to have a face-to-face conversation. Sarah has a Bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education from Monmouth College and a Master’s degree in Leadership in Human Service Administration from Bradley University. She loved her college experiences, and she considers herself so fortunate to be able to help students find their own amazing college experiences. Sarah was a cashier at her city swimming pool. She had a blast greeting the families and kids who arrived every day, looking forward to their fun in the sun. She got to know many of the children very well by the end of the summer, especially if they came to the pool by themselves. Whether they had a great day or came out of the pool crying, she was there to give them a hug and a smile. I guess Sarah always enjoyed welcoming people and making sure they have a great experience where she works! She loves working with students and their families through the entire college admission process. Her college degrees are in education and human services, so she likes to provide people with information and then help them be successful. A college search can be pretty confusing and overwhelming at times, and she really enjoys being the go-to person for someone when they feel like they need some help. Since in the Chicago suburbs they have a wind chill of -11 and another couple inches of snow, she would like to go anywhere with a nice, warm, secluded beach! During the weekends, she likes reading, watching new shows and movies, doing yoga, gardening and being outside in the summer, and hanging out with her family and their pets. Sarah loves our Admitted Student Programs because they are such a fun celebration of being offered admission to Eastern, and as an admission counselor, it’s one of the EIU experiences she gets to help provide for students. Each of our visit programs are awesome, but in her opinion, the admitted days are a little more special. Many students have such a great time while attending them, they decide that Eastern is the school they are going to choose to attend! Seeing a student’s face when they make that decision and are thinking of all the possibilities ahead during their years at EIU is just priceless!

Meet Madison Mapes!

Hey y’all! My name is Madison Mapes, and I am incoming freshman at EIU from Effingham, Illinois. I am majoring in Mathematics with the goal to also minor in Graphic Design. Once I have
completed my college education and received my degree in four years, I plan to find my career in the Actuarial field, but also use my minor in graphic design to keep with my hobby on the
side. I hope that ten years from now I’ll have climbed up part of the ladder of success, celebrating with my husband of our careers and our family. I have just joined the admissions team this year as a student ambassador, and am excited to meet and stay involved with the Eastern community. Being a student ambassador allows me to help those who are in the shoes that I was just in not even a year ago. And even though I’ve only been a part of the admissions team for so little time, I have already felt so accepted and interconnected with all of my coworkers. That’s been my favorite thing about not only being a student ambassador, but also being a student at EIU. I am already so comfortable with campus and the people on campus that it’s already become “home”. A big part of that familiarity came with the welcome weekend events EIU created for us incoming freshman. I am so excited for what my next four years as a Panther has in store for me!

Meet Rosa Varela Chavez! 🐾💙

Rosa is from Mexico and recently joined our office as a Regional Admission Counselor. She attended EIU for her undergrad degree and got her Master's degree at Dominican University. Her first job was at Marshalls, and after graduating from college she worked at ISAC. Her favorite thing about this job is finding immense fulfillment in working with first-generation students, guiding them through the challenges of higher education, and witnessing their triumphant graduation. Witnessing these individuals, often trailblazers in their families, not only obtain a college degree but also go on to achieve success in their chosen paths is a source of profound pride. It's a testament to their resilience, determination, and the transformative power of education. If Rosa could travel anywhere she would like to go to Italy. On the weekends she likes to take a day trip to a nearby town or attractions with her family. Her favorite event on campus is Homecoming!!

Meet Sarah McEvers 💙🐾

Hi! I am Sarah McEvers from White Hall, IL. I am a junior this year majoring in Kinesiology, Sport, and Recreation with a teacher certification. My minors are Public Health and Nutrition and Dietetics. I have been working with the Admissions Office as an ambassador since this past summer. The reason that I thought this position would be a good fit for me is because I have grown to have so much appreciation for EIU. I love getting the opportunity to show potential students what EIU has to offer and why it has become my home.

Following my undergraduate degree, my plan is to continue my education by getting my master’s in nutrition. After that, I don’t have any set plans in hopes that life will guide me in the direction it is meant to go. In ten years, I hope to have an established career, but most importantly be happy.

My favorite event on campus is Jock n’ Roll which is essentially a talent show for the athletic teams.

We are so happy to have Sarah in our office! 🐾💙
