Spencer Adkins Weather (TV Meteorologist)
More on the weather - and lots of "other stuff" I hope you find interesting or fun!
Another view of the storms out west on Monday July 29. Again the timing vs the models is off some but the form and motion seem to be west of most of WOWK area for that line of storms. More later today 👍🏻
Dark image is radar 9:30am Monday July 29. Those showers slide east then not a lot happens until late at night - and around 2am the weakening remnants of a squall line (MCS) are projected to scrape just west of us - mainly in the Lexington TV area. BUT there’s a squall line out west NOW so timing may be off but placement looks right. So we will keep an eye on it. So - as I said yesterday - this may not be much rain today. Will post more about Tuesday’s rain chances later today after new models come out.
MONDAY SEVERE STORM OUTLOOK for July 29, 2024. We are in the "northwest flow" again which means those complexes of storms are likely coming down from north and west of us. This is as of 9pm Sunday night (7/28) I'll tell you this - I expect a bunch of timing and placement changes in the next few days. The good news is, you can see them coming. Rain amounts may not be great Monday according to what I'm seeing. I think the storm line of the day will actually be really late - like late late Monday night coming down from Indiana into western Ohio and Kentucky. We'll see how far east it can make it. If you say: "that's a lot of 'if's' ..." - yep. That's this pattern. It'll still be hot! We can use whatever rain we can get too!
From Mrs. A’s Kitchen : Santa Fe Skillet - seasoned chicken & veggies with crumbled queso fresco and grilled tortillas !
World going 250 mph on fire …
Me: Oooh! Cool texture in that cloud !
🤷🏻♂️😆
A LITTLE RAIN - this is 12:15pm Sunday Radar summary. A few cells in KY MAY drift into WV. Do not count on it tho. These are few and far between. More rain Monday & Tuesday for more of us!
Home! And these goofballs wanted to sit in the sun. 🤷🏻♂️😄 A couple of minutes then we’re going back in. I’m sure the warmth feels good …. For a bit … then suddenly they’ll be 🥵😆
CRAYON SCULPTURES! If you zoom real close maybe you can see that these are made of crayons! They cut up thousands of them and place them for texture - wild! In the Atlanta airport ! 🖍️🖍️🖍️
Time to jet home 🛫👍🏻
That’s about a normal walk in a drum corps day for me 😄
Why I love Drum Corps International - the man with the drum is Jim Black. In the mid 80s he was a videographer with WJRT TV - and I was his intern. I knew he was the cool guy who had marched with Spirit of Atlanta Drum and Bugle Corps … he taught me how to run a camera - how to take care of my gear - how to make sure you get the shots - how to edit and get stuff done quickly and to always do it right and to be top notch. And we run into each other some 35 years later last year and re connected! He’s in the alumni group and I got to see him play tonight in Atlanta! And this of course is also my son Stuart who is on the DCI crew with me … (and the guy in the middle is my friend Nick Costella - he was busy announcing LOL) … these are my people spanning the decades of drum corps ! It’s always the music but it’s also always friends and family! ❤️🥁
Keeping an eye on things for that big DCI crowd ! Woo!
Grand Corgis today ! Kiwi (Princess puppy) and Penny (the Queen) 😄
Hank Aaron : Legend!
Doing Drum Corps International things in Atlanta for the Southeast Regional Championship! Let’s have a great show!
THIS FELT COOL - at 6am Sat. Heading to 90 today. Remember it was this comfy/cool around 4pm will ya ? 😄
Fair Bear ! 😂
HOLY COW! We’re out at the Cabell County fair tonight. Were here on 13 News starting on Good Day at 4!
T6-B fighter trainer military planes at Yeager Airport Thursday. Heard one when I left work Thursday night. Very cool!
SMOKE from Canadian Wildfires - this is the model for Sat 10am. Hazy here ! US National Weather Service Pittsburgh PA with the model grab …
Heating up and no rain until before the sun comes up Monday.
More DCI HUNTINGTON info for Wednesday.... *EDIT* to reflect Spartans additional day.... this is where the Corps will be housed before the show... this is where they will hold rehearsal before the show. Cannot thank the directors enough and their AD's and Principals/School Board members for hosting and making these groups feel welcome! I'll see if I can get rehearsal times (what we call "ensemble") and if I can get them I'll post. Show info coming in the comments but it's Wed Jul 31 at Marshall and you just won't believe the sights and sounds in person if you haven't been. Spread the word that this show is coming and let's make these young people and their teachers feel WELCOME in the Tri-State!!!
New Drought Monitor.... plus a look at how much rain we HAD over the LAST 7 days and a look at the Predictor and what it calls for over the NEXT 7 Days. Look for that rain Monday & Tuesday and it will help BUT doubt we break the drought here with that. Posted Thursday night 7/25/24
SATELLITE GEEKERY! Check that out ! Band of clouds over Charleston on the infrared satellite and the view from under it. Yeah - I’m a geek. 🤣
MOVING TRIBUTE : New K-9 Chase Memorial - at Barboursville Park where they have the K-9 Officer Memorial for all the WV K-9s. I’d never seen this until today. Thank you Chase and all the K-9s ! 🙏🏻
DRUM CORPS FANS! Here’s the info I have as of Thursday July 25 on rehearsal sites for DCI HUNTINGTON for Wed July 31 - check your fave unit’s social media for updates to see if rehearsal is open - most should be … but it doesn’t hurt to check. Most units would do their full run practice some time in the mid afternoon then eat, shower and roll to Marshall. Phantom will likely be later as they are in the MU stadium. That IS an open rehearsal I was told by the director. I’ll post times as I have them!
Blue Stars - Point Pleasant HS
Genesis - Chesapeake HS
Madison Scouts - Hurricane HS
Mandarins - South Point HS
Phantom Regiment - Marshall University
Spirit of Atlanta - Herbert Hoover HS
Battalion - Greenup County HS
Gold - Portsmouth West HS
Les Stentors - Dawson-Bryant HS
Spartans - Ravenswood HS (Tue), Symmes Valley HS (Wed)
ALSO - they feed themselves but I’m sure donations of bags of ice for drinks or something like popsicles or such would be very welcome! They’re big groups but if a band booster group or a local business wants to make this a memorable spot for a corps - that would be great! (Not all have 160 members but a few do plus staff)

Couple of showers here or there Thursday then it's going to heat up! Posted Wednesday night 7/24/24
Tequila Day! Thanks - we’ll pass. 😂. The PR firms send us these maps - it’s funny … looks like WV doesn’t like it ? Any tequila fans out there ? I feel like we’re more beer, bourbon and maybe moonshine (allegedly - if it existed - not that I’m saying it does) ? 🤔😂
WEDNESDAY severe weather outlook - dark green is category 1 of 5 so it’s marginal anyhow well north and south of WOWK area. But some Downpours possible in this soupy air. We’ll keep an eye on it! Afternoon is “go time” through the evening just like Tuesday. Almost a repeat! We’ll keep you advised !
FLASH FLOOD WARNING for northern Roane County / southern Wirt County, WV until 3 am Wednesday July 24, 2024. Never driving into an area where water covers the road!
