Speaking to a new client reminded me of a common pregnancy complaint... brain fog aka baby brain aka momnesia.

Pregnancy brain, also known as "momnesia", is a real phenomenon that occurs when a pregnant woman experiences forgetfulness and other cognitive issues. This can include putting things in strange places, forgetting to do things, and general absentmindedness. According to surveys, 50–80% of people who have been pregnant and given birth report memory deficits, "brain fog", or other cognitive issues.

Pregnancy brain is caused by the body's fluctuating hormones, which affect the brain's neurons. Studies have shown that pregnant women have significantly lower cognitive functioning, memory, and executive functioning than non-pregnant women, especially during the third trimester. There is also evidence that the brain's grey matter decreases during pregnancy, which could be the brain's way of making space for emotional regulation and parental motivation.

Everyone's experience with pregnancy brain is different, and some people may experience more cognitive changes than others. I remember these feels of forgetfulness, feeling like I was loosing my mind, etc. I remember wondering if something was wrong with me or my baby because I didn't understand. Well mommas let this post be healing balm to you, you are ok, and as long as these symptoms don't coincide with other symptoms so is your baby.

What decompression after birth looks like for me... leg massage with lavender and castor oil... cup of tea (Egyptian Hibiscus🌺) (shameless plug to my tea tulips😉), sometimes a hot bath and REST REST REST... as birth workers it's so incredibly important that we finds way to engage in self care.

Nothing quite like listening to your client sing praise to the LORD while laboring to bring her baby into the world.

My loyalty runs deep, if I am your friend and I know of a person seeking a specific service THAT I KNOW YOU PROVIDE... I'm going to shout you out INTENTIONALLY!!! Our bodies are amazingly resilient... and if you get it in your mind that this is FACTUAL... you can achieve natural birth the way it was intended!!! Prepare, educate yourself, pray, read the WORD and GODLY affirmations. Oh and hire a doula/midwife who will support and encourage you along the way!!
