Visitors may get groceries twice each month. If household income is higher, visitors will receive all donated food.

Loaves & Fishes provides free groceries, including fresh produce, milk, eggs, bread, and frozen meat for anyone who needs help eating well. RECEIVING FOOD:
Those who receive SNAP, Medicaid, TANF, or Supplemental Security Income or whose total household monthly income is at or below 185% of Federal Poverty Level qualify to receive all food we give out, including USDA
Loaves & Fishes will be closed Monday, September 2nd and will not be open for distribution Tuesday, September 3rd. We will have our regular drive-through distributions Wednesday (Sept.4), Thursday (Sept.5), and Saturday (Sept.7). Happy Labor Day!!

Lemon Spaghetti
Ingredients
-1 Pound spaghetti
-2/3 cup olive oil
-2/3 cup grated Parmesan
-1/2 cup fresh lemon juice (about 3 lemons)
-Salt and freshly ground black pepper
-1 tablespoon lemon zest
-1/3 cup chopped fresh basil leaves
Directions
1. Cook the pasta in a large pot of boiling salted water until tender but still firm to the bite, stirring occasionally, about 8 minutes. Meanwhile, whisk the oil, Parmesan, and lemon juice in a large bowl to blend.
2. Drain the pasta, reserving 1 cup of the cooking liquid. Toss the pasta with the lemon sauce, and the reserved cooking liquid, adding 1/4 cup at a time as needed to moisten. Season with salt and pepper. Garnish with lemon zest and chopped basil.
Optional: Can add chicken or shrimp

🏅 Celebrating Record-Breaking Numbers at Our Pantry! 🏅
As we approach the closing of an incredible few weeks of Olympic feats, we’re thrilled to share some remarkable milestones achieved right here in our healthy food pantry!
📅 July Highlights:
* Total Individuals Served: 8,000 unique individuals, with 11,013 duplicated individuals receiving groceries.
* Households Supported: 2,113 unique households were provided with essential food items.
* Record-Breaking Distribution: On Thursday, July 25th, we set a new all-time record by serving 260 households in one distribution event!
Being able to serve these numbers reflect the tireless efforts of our dedicated team and the generous support of our community. We’re incredibly grateful for every volunteer, donor, and partner who has contributed to making this possible and the continued support and commitment to our mission. 🌟
We tried to be open tonight, but since our operations are outside and the wind and rain has picked up so much in the last hour, we need to close, Thursday, August 8, 2024. We will open again Saturday morning.
Loaves & Fishes helps give out free groceries CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (CBS19 NEWS) -- With grocery prices continuously rising it is no shock that many families struggle to stretch their food dollars.
Loaves & Fishes is delighted to have Bank of America's support this year. Their $7,500 grant is making it possible for us to provide free, healthy groceries to 10,000 people each month since January. That's an unprecedented 96% growth in the number of people facing food access challenges. Bank of America's grant is helping us keep our commitment to always stocking fresh fruits, vegetables, meat, milk, and eggs.

Reminder Loaves and Fishes Food Pantry will be closed July 4th - July 6th. There will be no food distribution Thursday, July 4, 2024 and Saturday, July 6, 2024. We will resume food distribution by appointment Tuesday, July 9, 2024 and drive-through Wednesday, July 10, 2024.

🤩☀️💦 Awesome news! Beginning tomorrow, Sunday, June 23, all spray grounds will be open from 8am to 9pm daily. Spray grounds are located at Tonsler Park, Forest Hills Park, Belmont Park, and Greenleaf Park.

Our goal is that every household receives a bag filled with fresh produce when they visit up to twice a month. We’ve also had the opportunity of introducing new fruits and vegetables to many of our visitors.

During our latest cooking class, we partnered with to welcome two refugee mothers, empowering them to explore new fruits, vegetables, and cooking appliances. They had the opportunity of using a stove, blender, microwave, and air fryer to prepare heart-healthy vegetable recipes including greens, carrots, spaghetti squash, sweet potatoes and more. They also learned about ways to prepare complementary foods for their small children using fruits and vegetables. If you are interested in a class, we offer interpreters in Spanish and Dari.

Loaves & Fishes is closed for the Memorial Day holiday Monday, May 27, 2024 and is not offering food pickup by appointment on Tuesday, May 28, 2024. The pantry is open for drive-through food distributions on Wednesday, May 22, from 2-4 pm, Thursday, May 23, from 6:30-8:30 pm and Saturday, May 25, from 10 am - 12 pm, and the same hours on Wednesday May 29, Thursday, May 30, and Saturday, June 1.
TEFAP is vital for food pantries like us as it provides essential resources and nutritious foods that help sustain families seeking food-assistance, particularly in rural areas where access to grocery stores is limited.
