Capture the flag always brings out the team spirit!
The year is wrapping up, but the Oaks are busier than ever in writing. Their teachers are piloting an exciting writing program and are using science and nature as the basis. The Oaks are writing informational pieces about how to truly identify a plant versus a look alike. Do you know how to forage safely? Do you know the difference between a safe locust flower and the unsafe sour cherry? The Oaks can tell you!
It was a great day for a creekside adventure! Creek wading (and sitting), mud, teamwork, and wildlife galore! We saw cardinals, groundhogs, minnows, freshwater clam (shells), and a red eft!

Cutest game of tether ball ever? We think so!
"I’m being a decomposer. And I’m leaving the animals I see be. I’m leaving them be because I want them to be by themselves. I don’t want the to be scared or broken.”
The Oaks are in their final explore days on our campus that has been home to them for four years! Sophie has talked to the Oaks a lot about the importance of saying goodbye to a place and moving on in a way that honors your experience and time there. Today, the Oaks visited wall of pans to play nature studies games from over the years. They also created a special piece of ephemeral art with honorably harvested plants to honor Sophie, our amazing outdoor educator, and a beloved location. Can you tell what shape inspired the art? Hint: it’s a plant that has many meanings to people and lives in water.
It was a gorgeous day in the forest for hikes, trips to the creek, and everything in between!

The Oaks are working on fractions! Third grade oaks hunted for sticks of specific lengths to make their own fraction bars. These fraction bars are pretty accurate when compared to the factory made manipulatives, proving that stick play can be handy for more than just magic wands and swords!
