Our incredible participants are ready to embark on their kindergarten journey. They are equipped with essential skills like writing their names, working in groups, and even mastering the lunch line. Girl Start Academy, our Pre-K seasonal camp, is dedicated to preparing our youngest participants for life after Pre-K, ensuring they have a strong foundation for success.

Our commitment doesn't end here. Our Girl Start Academy program coordinators will continue to support and check in with our participants throughout their kindergarten year.

Today at Girls Inc. of Chattanooga's summer camp, we had the honor of welcoming back one of our very own alumnae, Maya Thirkill.

Maya is a proud graduate of Spelman College and is currently pursuing her doctoral degree in Epidemiology from Emory University. She shared her inspiring journey and emphasized the importance of education and the impactful field of Epidemiology. Our participants were truly motivated by her words and her dedication to making a difference. Thank you, Maya, for being a shining example of what it means to be strong, smart and bold!

Lawanda is making waves as a Senior Project Manager at Tennessee Valley Authority, exemplifying excellence with her degree in Electrical and Electronics Engineering from Auburn University.

But Lawanda's impact goes beyond her professional achievements. She's a dedicated mentor, empowering young women to pursue their dreams in STEM careers. Her ability to build strong relationships within her project teams sets her apart, making her a true leader who lives our mission to be strong, smart, and bold.

Thank you to the funding from the Tennessee Arts Commission we supplied materials and hired artists to assist our participants in creating artwork showcased at our UnBought and UnBossed Sneaker Gala in May. Thank you to the artists who guided our participants in the mural and ceramic casting process.

We celebrate Juneteenth, a day that symbolizes freedom, resilience, and the enduring spirit of the African American community. This important day commemorates the emancipation of enslaved African Americans and serves as a reminder of the ongoing fight for equality, equity, and justice.
