Delta Phi Alpha (ΔΦΑ) seeks to recognize excellence in the study of German and to provide an incentive for higher scholarship.
The Society aims to promote the study of the German language, literature and culture. The National German Honor Society, Delta Phi Alpha, seeks to recognize excellence in the study of German and to provide an incentive for higher scholarship. The Society aims to promote the study of the German language, literature and civilization and endeavors to emphasize those aspects of German life and culture which are of universal value and which contribute to humanity's eternal search for peace and truth.
AATG is delighted to announce a new endowment to support the Universities and Students of Delta Phi Alpha : Collegiate German Honorary Society.
The endowment was established in June 2024 with an initial investment of $115,000. Effective immediately, donations will be accepted to this fund so that it may grow: https://www.aatg.org/products/4062
The fund will start dispersing scholarships in January 2025. The Delta Phi Alpha Endowed fund joins three other endowed funds of AATG that serve specific purposes. Opportunity for US College Graduates: IPS Scholarship
Each year, the German Bundestag, in cooperation with three major Berlin universities, invites up to 120 young university graduates from 50 countries to experience the German democratic system of governance during a five-month program in Berlin. Under the patronage of the President of the German Bundestag, the International Parliamentary Scholarship runs from March 1 to July 31, including a three-month placement in the office of a German parliamentarian.

The Delta Phi Alpha Executive Board is excited to announce a visual essay contest open to all student members (undergraduate and graduate). Our goal is to promote the study of important topics in the German-speaking world and provide a venue for students to use their German language skills. 1. DPA is soliciting the submission of an original visual product about why studying German is valuable. For example, a visual product could present the combination of German and another field of study like chemistry, engineering, or music. This can be a poster, comic, painting, digital artwork, etc. Please submit a high quality jpg or pdf of the work as a component of submission.
2: Description: Max 250 word description of art product and the process. What is your inspiration, what message are you sending?
Prizes:
1st: $500
2nd: $300
3rd: $200
Submission of the visual artwork allows DPA to display the art on the internet to promote German. Therefore, submissions may not use copyrighted artwork in the composition of the product.

About – Delta Phi Alpha The Delta Phi Alpha National German Honorary Society began with the founding of the Alpha chapter at Wofford College in 1929, and now has constituent chapters at over three hundred colleges and universities throughout the United States.

Delta Phi Alpha, the National German Honor Society, congratulates Cassandra Winkelman of Colby College for winning the Future K-12 Teacher Award of $500 and a membership in American Association of Teachers of German. Winkelman, a dual major in German and French, is studying in the Professional Certification Program at Colby. Her recommenders enthused about her high level of German and her contributions to the German program on campus as a multiyear tutor. Committee members were impressed by her teaching experience and they noted her enthusiasm for bringing the German language and its cultures to young people. Congratulations, Cassandra, and good luck as you begin your career!
Delta Phi Alpha, the National German Honor Society, congratulates Braden Muscarello of Franklin & Marshall College. for winning the 2021 Graduate Study Award of $1000. This is one of the highest honors for undergraduate students of German in the US. Muscarello is currently a dual major in German and English with a minor in Italian. She will begin her graduate study at the University of Massachusetts this fall. Her recommenders noted her dedication and growth in the German language. They particularly appreciated her willingness to share her time and expertise with her student colleagues. Committee members lauded the considerable efforts that Braden has made to prepare herself for graduate school and an eventual teaching career. Good luck in graduate school, Braden!
