Honor and Remember - Illinois Chapter
Perpetually recognizing the sacrifice of Illinois Military Fallen and Their Families. He began to sense that he had joined the ranks of a unique fellowship.
"The mission of Honor and Remember is to create, establish and promote a nationally recognized flag that will fly continuously as a visible reminder to all Americans of the lives lost in defense of our national freedoms," said George Lutz, founder and director of Honor and Remember, Inc. "The flag honors all military lives lost from our nation's inception, not only in action but also in service."

Everyone, please take the time to read, spread the word and share. Thank you!
From protecting our borders and state capitals to delivering pandemic aid, supporting local law enforcement, and serving in combat, National Guard and Reserve servicemembers have been increasingly called upon to confront unique challenges. They often leave their families and civilian employers for lengthy periods of time, sometimes taking significant pay cuts. Yet, despite all we ask of them and all they contribute, they are often denied a cornerstone benefit of service: the GI Bill.
H.R. 7543 โ the Guard and Reserve GI Bill Parity Act of 2024
Despite the expanding roles of Guardsmen and Reservists, the V.A. recognizes little of their service. Currently, National Guard and Reserve servicemembers only earn credit toward their Post-9/11 GI Bill benefits when they mobilize and deploy for federal missions. National Guard and Reserve servicemembers activated under state orders do not accrue eligibility for Post-9/11 GI Bill benefits.
H.R. 7543 โ the Guard and Reserve GI Bill Parity Act of 2024 is crucial to rectifying this inequity. It proposes to count every day spent on weekend drills, annual training, attending military school, participating in an exercise, or responding to a disaster toward GI Bill eligibility.
The American Legion firmly believes that every day in uniform counts. Guardsmen and Reservists who serve alongside their Active-Duty counterparts deserve the same GI Bill eligibility.
The American Legion urges you to contact your members of Congress today and encourage them to pass the Guard and Reserve GI Bill Parity Act!
Urge your members of Congress to support HR7543.

Honor and Remember - Illinois Chapter says the name of Willa Beatrice Brown...Illinois/Indiana W.A.S.P...SAY HER NAME!!!
Meet Willa Beatrice Brown, the first Black and Native American woman to earn her commercial pilot's and aircraft mechanic's licenses. Willa was born in 1906 in Glasgow, Kentucky. As a student, Willa worked hard, immediately heading to Indiana State University upon graduating high school. Earning her bachelor's degree at age 21, Willa Brown was hired as a teacher at Roosevelt High School in Gary, Indiana.
In the 1920s and 1930s, Willa held positions as a teacher, post office clerk, secretary, and laboratory assistant in colleges, even though it was an economically trying time. Later, she was employed by the Works Projects Administration (WPA) as a social worker. Eventually, she would find herself at Northwestern University and earn her Masterโs degree in Business Administration. While enrolled in a master's degree program at Northwestern University, Brown joined the Challenger Air Pilots Association, a group of African American pilots, and learned to fly at Harlem Field, on the southwest side of Chicago.
During WWII, Willa desired to join the (Women's Airforce Service Pilots) and use her newfound skills to help the cause. Unfortunately, she was denied due to her race. However, her contributions to the war effort were not halted. She and her husband, Cornelius Coffey formed the CAP (Civil Air Patrol) Squadron 613 in conjunction with his school, The Coffey School of Aeronautics. Willa held the rank of lieutenant and adjutant for the squadron and aided in flying anti-submarine machines, courier services, and border patrol. Their organization protected the home front.
