What an educational week last week for YPA leadership! The inaugural “Cowboys to the Capital” was a great success.
Our 3-day excursion provided producer input with USDA-NRCS heads, meeting with the National Cattlemen’s Beef Association and Public Lands Council in their DC office, visiting with Wyoming Congressional leadership and staff, and even getting the opportunity to listen in on the Senate Energy and Natural Resources hearing regarding wildfire prevention where fellow WSGA member Pat O’Toole gave his testimony on livestock grazing management. We also had a great experience seeing the U.S. Capitol and learning the history of our democracy.
We finished off the trip with an agricultural tour and dinner at Rocklands Farm Winery in Maryland. Our YPA President Sage Askin also provided some insight of ag production in Wyoming to the participants of the Rocklands Farm MD grazing school.
The YPA leadership attending this event gained so much more perspective of how grassroots policy development helps structure agricultural policy and regulations at the national level. We cannot thank the members of WSGA and YPA, family, friends, and sponsors for such an amazing experience. Now, on to planning the next one!

Today, we thank Hunter Petsch for her 2021 Best of Beef photo submission that was the YPA cover photo for one year.
Hunter Petsch is a part of the fifth generation in the Petsch family to join their family farm and ranch located in Meriden, Wyoming. Growing up she enjoyed spending her time outside of school working on the ranch on the hay crew and more specifically working with and enhancing their cattle herd. This picture was taken on a beautiful summer day when the heifers were out on summer pasture in their hill country. Thank you again for the photo!
