No fooling! welcomes a new member, Frances Lee!
As a keen observer of the visual world and social dynamics, Lee’s artistic research uses the methods of painting, sculpture and writing to tell stories and ask questions about contemporary life. Inspired by public space and civic discourse, her works suspend moral tensions observed in everyday encounters. Through color, composition, and the specificity of materials, she often makes work in iteration and sequence to study how knowledge is formed through images and their materials. She is interested in how this formal and conceptual thinking can scale through exhibition or installation to incorporate context and architecture in the system of the image.
Born in Oakland, CA Lee studied at Oberlin College (BA 2013) and the University of Chicago (MFA 2018). Her work has been exhibited at the Hyde Park Art Center (Chicago, IL), Logan Center Exhibitions (Chicago, IL), EXPO Chicago, and most recently at the Visual Arts Gallery at the University of Illinois Springfield where she presented a solo exhibition in 2023. She has participated in several residencies, programs and fellowships including the Center Program at HPAC, ACRE, and the Vermont Studio Center. Lee is currently a Lecturer at Northwestern University.

Coffee Divination Workshop: Armenian Coffee Reading: a sweet treat and your future in a cup on Saturday, February 3, 2024, 1pm to 4pm
Tiger Strikes Asteroid is excited to present Traversing Temporalities, a solo exhibition of work by Kristin Anahit Cass, curated by Cydney Lewis. The show explores ideas of SWANA (South West Asia and North Africa) futurism through a body of work including photography, video, sculpture, and installation. For viewers, her work offers meditations on time, memory, and futurity. The altar offers an opportunity for visitors to express their own wishes for a better future in communion with the hopes of the subjects portrayed in Cass’s portraits, while experiencing the multiple temporalities of the divination ritual portrayed in the video. The practices of divination, use of amulets, and women’s hand works that are common across many cultures as spiritual practices offer visitors a portal through which to access their own ancestral cultural practices.
We hope you will join us for the opening and workshop to follow.

Since our founding in 2009, we’ve grown from a small space in Philadelphia to an expansive network of spaces with locations in New York, Los Angeles, Chicago, and Greenville, SC. To date, we’ve organized almost 400 exhibitions/projects and have shown the work of over 2000 artists. We’ve organized large scale projects such as Artist-Run in Miami, where we invited artist-run spaces from all over the world to transform a room in an abandoned hotel during Basel week. During the beginning of the pandemic we used our spaces as artist residencies, giving artists the time and space to focus on their work during a difficult time. We also organized about 20 printable exhibitions through a new platform called TSA_PDF. We've given many artists their first solo shows and reviews of their work in the press.
