It’s officially back-to-school season! 🍎 Whether you’re packing a lunch for school, work, or even just a day out, here’s a quick refresher to ensure your lunch stays safe and delicious:
Keep It Clean: Wash your hands with warm water and soap for at least 20 seconds before and after handling food. Clean your food prep surfaces and utensils with hot, soapy water.
Chill Perishables: Use an insulated lunch tote with two cold sources, like a frozen gel pack or juice box, to keep perishable items (like sandwiches and fresh fruits) chilled until you’re ready to eat.
Rinse & Dry: Always rinse fresh fruits and vegetables under running tap water, even those with skins or rinds. Dry them with a paper towel before packing.
Prep Ahead: Prepare sandwiches and other perishable items the night before. Store them in the refrigerator until it’s time to pack your lunch.
Keep Hot Foods Hot: Use an insulated bottle for hot foods. Preheat the bottle with boiling water, then fill it with piping hot food and keep it sealed until mealtime.
Dispose Properly: Dispose of used food packaging and perishable leftovers. Avoid reusing plastic bags to prevent cross-contamination.
